Question Stage 3 matrix lunge question?

Hi

I am curious on the lunges in the matrix part of stage 3 workout 1

Is it a static lunge on each leg 12x each or do u alternate legs?

Same with the jumping lunges? Wouldn't you just do 24 ?

Im confused?

Alternate lunges -- 12 each leg = 24 total
Same with the jumping ones

At least that's how I intrepreted it.

well thats what i did, does it matter if you stay down in the lunge or are you supposed to come all the way back up to a standing with feet together position for each lunge...

i was keeping legs apart and lunging for 12 reps

am i making sense?

It's not a static lunge. You come back to standing and alternate the legs.

Oh shoot, then I did them wrong too... I stayed with my legs apart and did all 12 lunges one side, then the other side... guess I have to fix that next time

I'll take a look at the book tonight and read through the explanations. Maybe I read it wrong (wouldn't be the first time!).

It's alternating lunges. Think about it. It's supposed to be a metabolic circuit. Which lunge gets your heart rate up more? Of course you'll be moving your feet. This is what we're doing instead of intervals. It should feel a lot like the intervals.

Take a look at this and watch the guy in the video dying during this leg matrix. HA!

Huh? He does exactly what we're supposed to be doing (just not very well). He goes through Alwyn's bodyweight matrix once. NR4W Stage 2 workout A prescribes the matrix to be done twice. You rest twice as long as it took you to do it the first time through. That's why he was timing it. Then we're supposed to do it again. You don't rest between the four individual movements.

Matrix = fancy name for this group of four exercises

Lisa, I'm glad you posted this link. I read the whole thread. What stuck out to me was the question/response about changing the order of the matrix exercises. It's not something I would have considered if I hadn't read that.

I did this the first time today and it was so hard I had a brain fugue or something. I completely missed the "alternating" part, even though I specifically looked in the book to check.

So when Miss Jane said alternating, I ran to get the book to PROVE HER WRONG but dang, if she isn't right. That sucks. (No offense, Miss Jane.)

By the way, the first matrix took me 5 minutes! But I only rested 5 minutes because I could hear my legs plotting to overthrow my brain and I needed to quell that mutiny real quick.

At the end of the 2nd matrix I think my heels were leaving the ground but those toes weren't going anywhere.

I so totally get exactly what you mean by that - truly a muscle mutiny going on.
