Default What if the flu/cold puts you down and out?

Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.........I'm sitting here with tissues attached to my right AND left hips because I can't go 2 minutes without using one. It's been this way (along with a totally aching body, chills, sore throat, fever, the whole nine yards) since last Friday. I'm hoping that by mid-week I'll feel strong enough to do my workout........but where do I start?

Do I just pick up with where I left off with the same weights? Do the workout I'm scheduled to do with lower weights? Or, do I go back a few workouts and repeat them? I'm sure my diet of 1 bowl of chicken noodle soup and green tea isn't helping my strength any.......lol

Thoughts?

When your well enough I would pick up right where you left off. You will know when you start if you need to decrease your weight - just listen to your body.
Feel better soon!!

Stephanie, I had to wait 1.5 weeks to go back. So I started with wimpy weights and found out I got stronger??? Just test the waters and jump back in. I have been derailed twice during Stage one and am feeling another derailing coming ugh. I don't feel so hot today.

So I just continue where I left off. I must be on the 4 month plan for Stage one LOL!

I kept going during my last cold and I really think it was a bad idea. My workouts suffered and my cold seemed to last forever! I'm taking it easy on the next one.

I'll try to work through a cold (which I think I have now), but the flu lays me low hard.

Careful on working through a cold. The head congestion, combined with the exertion of exercising can cause both serious headaches and dizziness.

If you want, focus on illness recovery and get back at it. If your off for one, pick up where you left off. If you're off for two weeks, repeat the last two workouts. More than that, consider starting back at the beginning of the current stage.

Let me explicate a tad more and fix some grammatical errors:

I just got over being really sick a couple of weeks ago. I did pick right back up where I left off. Last year, I was off longer than that when my mom had a stroke and I eased my way back in that time. It all depends on how you feel.

Thanks, everyone for your advice. I guess I'll play it by ear and see how it goes. Thursday will be a week........and I don't see myself being ready to go by then. Darn flu! I haven't been sick like this in several years.

Stephanie - I can totally relate. I'm sick, sick, sick and have been wondering the same thing. Thanks for posting the question, and thanks especially for everyone's feedback; it's nice to know that I'm not being a wimp by not working out while I'm sick!

Rest is your friend..... I didn't rest adequately when I got sick at the beginning of stage one in January and I ended up off for a month because I got sick again and couldn't get my energy back.

Take it easy and get your body fully back to health--heed Paula's advice because she's right!

I had the flu in January, and I was down for 2 full weeks. I was only 2 weeks into the program when it started, so I just started all over again. However, now that I'm a lot farther into the program, I think I'd just pick up where I left off and listen to my body about how much to lift. But not until you're body is ready!

I worked out yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks, due to the flu and its complications. I did no exercise at all and my body was starting to feel soft. Interesting how I was less concerned about losing weight from being sick than losing precious muscle!

My last workout was 2/25, Stage 2, B1 exercise.

So I started at the begining of Stage 2 again, using lower weights. (ugh, I had to use some silver weights, blech!)

Push ups were harder than before, but I did them, and I had to use considerably less weight in the front squat/push press (35 vs. the olympic bar)

I have lost a bit of strength but surprisingly enough I'm not sore today. My body says ha ha! just wait til tomorrow!
