I have a deadlift form question
I am used to doing deadlifts the way Cathe Freidrich does them on her videos--- with a very slight bend in the knee, but mostly straight legged all the way down to the floor.
In the picture in Lou's book, it seems that the deadlift used involves a full squat all the way down to the floor each time you lift and lower the bar. Am I reading this correctly?
Thanks!
Debbie

Yes, you are.
The "bottom half" of your deadlift should be a primary function of your knees, and the "top half" of your deadlift should be a primary function of your hips. (My bf told me, at the top of my deadlift, to "hump the bar!" I think he got that from Starting Strength.)
Does the knee/hip thing make sense?

What you learned is called a Romanian deadlift (RDL), which is a great lift, but the lift in Stage 1 is a conventional deadlift. This thread has a video that shows the differences between the two and links you to other threads where the same question was asked:
Overthinking DL's

Thank you so much, everyone! The article and especially the video link (Thanks, Lisa!) really explained everything perfectly.
I am just so grateful for this forum!

That was a great link. I've been doing deadlifts for awhile now, and I do think I am doing them right, but it was good to see a video that really shows them off like that.

When I started this program, I had only ever done Cathe deadlifts, too! I love my Cathe, but I'm also loving how fast these strength workouts are.
I know it's not the offical way to do intervals, but I'm also planning to do some Imax2/3 work for some of the HIIT in the program, too. I miss my step.

How long are they taking you at stage 3? When I did Cathe strength, some of them are 70 minutes or longer. Bleh.

some of the length though is the required rest times - it might be 50% rest (haven't done the math yet)
