Default Business traveling and keeping up with your health

Starting March 24th thru April 4th, I will be on the road due to business trips. The hotels have gyms but only have your basic cardio machines: bikes, treadmills, etc. I was thinking of doing stuff like push ups, lunges, squats, and other stuff just to continue to do something during my trips ... I'm only on my first week of NRL4W and by the time I start traveling I'll be 3 weeks into it. I will pick up where I left off when I return.

My question is .... do you guys do anything special that you can recommend when you travel?

How about my diet? I can bring my PP, protein bars, oatmeal, etc. What else do you guys bring to keep eating healthy while you travel?

Thanks in advanced!

When I travel I never rely on the hotel gyms (if you want to even call them that!). Instead, I investigate what gyms are in the area of my hotel and call them and ask them if I can come work out there. Most of them will always offer a guest pass for a small price.

I bring protein powder with me and can eat to suit my diet needs at most restaurants.

Ask the concierge or front desk at the hotel about nearby gyms. They can recommend one and will probably give you a free pass.

I was out of the country for 3 months before I started NROL. Most of my time was spent in cramped hotel rooms. But I tried to do as much as I could in the hotel room. I did as many different types of push-ups as I could. Regular, diamond, elevated, decline, one arm on a block or something. Whatever. I did bodyweight squats, jumps, burpees. I made up my own short circuits. It wasn't the best, but it definitely was a workout.

I would also try to look for parks, where there was exercise equipment. Like bars where you can do chin-ups, parallel bars for dips, etc.

There's always tabata too. You can do that with body weight squats, and it only takes 4 minutes, and you don't need much room.

When you are travelling, the excuses to not work out become much easier, so it's good to have a plan, and try to stick to it.

I think the working out part of your question is pretty much answered. As far as eating goes, with the popularity of fad diets, it seems that restaurants are getting more and more used to special orders. A number even offer things as low carb, or whatever. Don't be afraid to special order something. Ask how things are cooked. If something is fried, ask to have it grilled or broiled instead. Get sauces on the side. And, most importantly, remember that portion sizes in restaurants are off the charts! If you're staying in a hotel with a refridgerator and microwave, take at least half of you dinner back to the hotel with you and eat it as a snack, lunch, or even dinner the next night. You're saving money that way too!

As far as diet goes, I would say the biggest thing is to not let yourself get too hungry. I always make poor choices when I'm ravenous, whereas if I have something in my hand to eat, even just a protein bar, it makes ordering that salmon salad with vinaigrette a lot easier.

Most "business" people are the exact opposite of lifters - they can go HOURS without eating, and then they're not at all picky about what goes in their mouths. If you at least pack two weeks worth of Zone or Luna bars, apples, string cheese (this stuff lasts forever, in or out of the fridge, it seems), almonds, etc...you should be able to fill in the gaps discreetly and keep your head on straight.

Good luck!
