HI! First post & nutrition site question
Hi y'all--
Can I say that I have been lurking on this board for about a week and was so completely impressed by the intelligent dialogue here, I was moved to join in the fun...! I have learned so much here already (thanks so much for the deadlift pointers, BTW--I am not scared of them as much). I appreciate your thoughtful comments on all the topics.
I am a longtime resistance training fan, and am in Stage 2 of the NROLW. You know what I am enjoying most? My rest days! I used to slog it out in the gym for six days a week (long bouts of cardio, of course, on my "off days")--and I am already noticing BETTER results (BF% wise) without all the incessant cardio! whoo hoo! I feel like I have so much more free time now!
Two questions for all the divas here--
1. anyone have a good nutrition site they like? I am looking for something that I can input my meals, food diary, etc. into and get a macro breakdown. Plus a running calorie tally.
2. I think I strained my wrist a bit on the push press--I read all the terrific posts and did I hear correctly that some have been using the E-Z bar with less wrist strain?
Thanks!
Kristy

I'll try to type in a high voice... like the diva that I am.
Calorieking.com is the best, IMO. Fitday.com is the cheapest (free for the web version, and cheap for the pc version (which I've never tried)).
It depends on how anal and important this stuff is. CK has EVERYTHING in their database. With Fitday, you have to look a lot of things up elsewhere, then plug in some custom foods.
CK has a free 7 day trial.
As to your wrist, it's okay to use an EZ bar, but after your wrist is better, look into some mobility and flexibility drills for the wrist. Odds are that you can do better and get back to a regular bar. After all someday you'll be doing push presses with a lot of weight, and an EZ curl bar won't work in a squat rack!

I use Spark People. There numbers aren't always accurate but you can enter your own foods and mark them so they are easy to find.

I use NutribaseEZ on the PC, I've also used LifeForm (PC) in the past.
If I just want to look up a whole food quickly, I use nutritiondata.com or the USDA nutritional database (the database source for the food breakdowns for most of the software out there). USDA offers more portion size options but nutritiondata's interface is a little nicer when giving you the results.

Really? Would you say it's better than sparkpeople? That's why I use and it's fine--has some weird quirks, but it's free so I deal--but I'm always up for an upgrade!

I'm also someone who uses SparkPeople's log. I really like it, especially once you have your favorite foods listed with all of their information.
FitDay is also quite good. I bought the home computer version so I could do more with it.
I haven't tried/used Calorie King yet, but I've heard it is a good choice, too.

I use FitDay, too. I've tried SparkPeople, which I like because it has more features, but I had already been using FitDay for a while, and had input TONS of my own custom foods, which I didn't want to have to do all over again. I like that SparkPeople has a recipe calculator and suggested meal plans and workouts and stuff. If I were starting again, I would probably just start out with Spark.

I also have the Fit Day desktop version and like it.
But I've read good things about Calorie king. I think either would be a good idea.

I tried out a dozen or more nutrition sites last year. SparkPeople, Nutridiary, Calorie-Count, FitDay, CalorieKing, DailyPlate, etc, etc -- but only the free versions of each. I ended up always going back to FitDay because it was easiest for me, probably because it's what I had used the most. This year, I forked out the $$ for CalorieKing's software and am in love!

Diane.............What makes it so much better? I have FitDay's PC version ($20) but would be interested to hear why you like it so much more (especially since you like FitDay).

I like mydailyplate. I used fitday for years, but even though I liked their interface somewhat better, I hated the lack of a decent food database. Calorieking is also very good. Daily Plate has been making a lot of upgrades recently which are VERY welcome (such as custom labels for manually entered exercise) but occasionally the site gets slow and a bit buggy while all the changes are going on.

Pie charts and graphs! Ooh, how I love pie charts and graphs. I'm such a sucker for them. LOL It also has a huge database of foods, the largest of any of them I had tried (but keep in mind I haven't tried any others since last year and, even then, it was only the freebie ones). It's incredibly easy to save custom foods, custom meals, and custom exercises. I can set and easily (even daily) change custom nutrition targets -- I have calories, fat, protein, and carb targets set now, either by percentages (of calories) or by grams.
There are just lots of cool things to tinker with that keep my anal self happy.

Another vote for Calorie King. I've tried the others but always come home to CK.
