I was thinking we could have a thread with the powders we've tried and which ones we personally think taste the best. As well, be sure to note what you mix with (ex: I mix with water most of the time for ease of convenience) as that can influence taste as well.
I'm not a fruity or vanilla person when in comes to the protein, but I've tried a few. The Nectars have a nasty aftertaste/bite, and I've yet to find a non-chalky and non-whey aftertaste vanilla.
That being said, my faves would be PVL Whey Gourmet (probably Cookies & Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, Coconut Cream Pie and Iced Frapp being in my top tastes), Dymatize (I've had the chocolate and tofee: both mix really easily and taste good to boot) and am currently on a tub of ProBlend 55 chocolate (not bad, not the best).
I have tried SOOOOO many protein powders -- I can't even tell you! And, thus far, the only one I like (and I REALLY like it!) is Nitrean from At Large Nutrition. Chocolate is my favorite, but I also like the Vanilla and the Strawberry. MMMM....I even look forward to them. I mix with water, 2 ice cubes, and whip it up in the blender.

Hi MissJane, where do you get your Nitrean powder? Thanks!
Great customer service, too. If you ask for a sample of another flavor when you check out, they will send you a nice size sample, too. That's how I was able to check out the vanilla and strawberry.
ISO Flex Chocolate is really good, and Gold Standard Dark Chocolate is really good as well. I also mix these with water as I hate it mixed with milk or anything else.
I am sensitive to Splenda, which, unfortunately is EVERYWHERE these days. For that reason I've settled on Dymatize Elite Whey. I buy only Chocolate or Vanilla, I've also tried Butter Cream (I like it) and Cafe Mocha (hate it but thankfully hubby doesn't).
I prefer to mix PP with skim milk but if I am adding fruit and ice then water is fine. I like chocolate PP mixed with a few frozen strawberries or cherries.
These are what I have tried and comments. All mixed with water and I like ones that mix in just a shaker bottle (I have the blender ball one) for convenience.
Whey Gourmet Choco Peanut butter= good taste but clumpy if not blended. not good mixing with food
BSN Lean Dessert Vanilla Cream= good taste, easy to mix in shaker and great mixed into fod
BSN Lean Dessert Cinnamon Roll= great taste, easy to mix in shaker and great mixed into foods
Biotest Metabolic Drive Chocolate= great taste, easy to mix

From trueprotein.com , the vanilla premium flavor whey protein isolate...YUM! But I will say I always use either milk, ice/fruit, or sometimes a chai latte to mix it in. I have never tasted a powder I didn't think was nasty mixed in plain water. Their chocolate fudge is good as well, in milk or with milk/banana/PB.

I've been using ISO Flex for the past month and I think it's decent (a little bit on the sweet side), but the stuff is expensive in comparison to non-isolated whey! I went with an isolate though because I'm lactose intolerant. I'm not sure if there's any truth to this, but I've been told isolates absorb a lot quicker? I've been mixing it with water to take during/post-workout and with lactose-free milk at other times.
I love and use Optimum Nutrition's Whey Powder. I either get it through Vitacost or Amazon. I just started getting it through Amazon because I can put it on subscription service and get it even cheaper. Love the stuff. Chocolate and Strawberry are my favorites.

I like all the BSN protein powders except Cinnamon Roll. A lot of people like that flavor, so I guess it's just me. I think they mix really well in oatmeal, but I do occasionally have issues with water. I need to get a shaker bottle.
I have also tried Designer Whey. I hate the Vanilla and the Chocolate is ok. It does mix up well, but it's a little thin. I generally mix with milk or oatmeal and am not generally a fan of any flavors with water.
_CQ will no doubt chime in on this, but she has got us using the trueprotein and both the taste and the ease of mixing are tops in my book. Really satisfied with that stuff from a nutritional standpoint as well.
I'm using the Jay Robb stevia sweetened chocolate powder and I love it. It doesn't have the best ease of mix, but I put it in a blender since we workout at home anyways. For a stevia based product, it is fantastic and not "proteiny" to me at all.

I buy Trader Joe's Soy Protein powder - 25 g of Protein; 28 servings for about $10. I'm really fussy about trying to keep things simple, and dislike feeling that I need to rely on a product to serve my protein needs. On top of that, I really try to be budget minded, and the Trader Joe's stuff seems to give the best price for the serving. I like just getting Vanilla because it's more versatile - mild enough to mix into food, easy to blend.
So much for keeping things simple and being budget minded, here's where I can be a gadget queen: I bought a Magic Bullet and love it. Super easy clean up, quick in and out of the kitchen, and all three of us at home can make different shakes in no time flat.
In light of all that, I am curious about why people seem to prefer whey to soy, and whether different non-meal-replacement products are really all that different for the recreational shake maker.
I really like Max Muscle's High 5. I've tried the banana, chocolate, and banana-pineapple and enjoy all. I have only mixed them with water. I'm trying to find an alternative though, as they're quite expensive!
Optimum Nutrition Chocolate is pretty good. Muscle Milk and Muscle Milk light in chocolate are delicious but I won't buy anymore due to the loads of fat and other interesting things in them. I've tried toffee Dymatize and didn't like it at all. Jay Robb's chocolate was okay, I liked that it was more natural. I don't love Designer Whey flavors, they tend to have a fake aftertaste.

I got one recently also...I use it every day, I love it.
I use ON Gold Natural Vanilla. It's good. I had to get used to the taste because previously my protein powders were all full of artificial sweetener. This had a small amount of real sugar instead. I'd much rather have something that is artificial free and tastes alright, than something that is delicious but full of fake stuff (but this is just me).
I have tried LOTS of protein powders. If you don't care about artificial sweeteners, I LOVE ON's banana flavor.
I finally had my first Nitrean shake from At Large Nutrition (thanks to Miss Jane) and it was delicious! I mixed it with 1 cup of skim milk and ice in a blender and is very good!! Yum!
BTW, Amazon is having a "get 20 bucks off if you buy 99 bucks worth" of select ON, BSN, and Cyto products thru 3/31. I bought 3 flavors of ON gold 5.15 pounders for under $90, which means I'll be drinking the stuff for the rest of the year!
Just tried a sample packet of Ultimate Nutrition Iso Sensation 93 in chocolate fudge... the best powder I've had yet and very good protein content (130cals for 1 scoop w/ 28g protein)
