Default Stage 2, w/o A

Hi

OK I attempted stage 2, w/o A tonight. I have to say it did not go well

On the front squat/push press, I had a heck of a time figuring what weight to use, and was dissapointed when I had to drop down to 40lbs on the bb. (I was doing my shoulder presses with 2 x 20lbs).

I don't think I'll be able to roll to bar back on my fingers as the book says when beginning the movement. I have wrist issues (carpel tunnel syndrome) and this placing the bar on my fingers instead of in my palms hurt like hell and seems to cut off any kind of force I have to push the bar up to finish the movement. How important is the placing of the bar in your fingers instead of in your palms.

Also, had to bring my weights down on the static lunge, rear foot elevated, compared to the regular lunge in stage one. Is this normal as well.

Posted a question on another thread about the woodchop.

It was one of the hardest workout's I have EVER done. I don't know if today was just a bad day, but I'm completely pooped, nothing like how I felt at the beginning of stage 1.

I'm almost afraid to attempt w/o B

Thanks for letting my rant a bit.

I liked the lunge (did my first Stage 2 A workout today also) but on the 2nd set I used no weight. It is a killer exercise, but I can really feel it working.

That push press thing is crazy. I dropped down to 30 lbs and I've been doing 20 lb dumbbells on the shoulder presses myself. I too have wrist problems, and I must have short upper arms. My wrists were up behind my neck when at 90 degrees, and the bar would be halfway through my neck. So I have to keep my arms down. And attempting to go up on my toes just made me very unstable.

So.....I'll just do it the best I can, which isn't anything like the book.

Oh, and those planks...egads, my shoulder muscles are killing me, down where the bicep and tricep makes that dip in...major ouchies there tonight, and then I went to belly dance class and we have to keep our arms up. I wasn't happy.

Thanks Annette, glad to know I wasn't alone in my frustration yesterday
This morning I'm over my little rage, but I was pissed last night. Just when you start getting pretty good at some excercises, the new ones come at you and you feel like your starting at point 0 again.

Anyway, I suppose if it's was easy, the results wouldn't be there. I also suspect I didn't eat enought yesterday before the w/o. So we'll check in with w/o B tommorrow...woo hoo, intervals after....I am SOOOOOOO looling forward to that (NOT)!!!!

It's nice to know we are at the same stage of the workout too. I'll try checking out your blog (though I haven't kept up with mine very well.)

I don't know about you, but I am so damn sore today. In a different way too. Not DOMS (is that what it's called) but a different ache, almost worn out. I went to bed feeling sore and drained. My thighs up high are sore, my shoulders too.

At least I know things were worked differently.

I had the same problem with the push-press combo. I did the first stage 2 A workout last night as well. I really don't think it's a big deal how you hold the bar while squating. I think it comes into play when you start lifting obnoxiously heavy weights and kind of NEED to rest it on your upper arm so as to not tire your arms out completely. I had my arms bent but my elbows were closer to my sides, like where they end up when you finish the push-press part anyway. I'd be interested in knowing from one of the experts on here whether this actually makes a difference or not though.... if it does, then I guess I have some practicing to do!

so, did all of you take the week "break" from working out? Just curious? I read the board from a few weeks ago where people were contemplating on whether or not to take that break between stage 1 and stage 2 and am curious if you did or not, and if you did do you think it helped? And if you didn't do you wish you had? I have 2 more workouts and the 2 extra workouts left in stage 1 and was curious as to which route to go.

I took a week off during stage 1 and therefore chose not to take one between stage 1 and stage 2.

Hi Annette,

Yeah I hear you, drained is the correct word, that's definately how I felt last night. Today was better though, although I'm darn glad I don't have to w/o tonight.

Ok, here a stupid question: What does DOMS stand for....

Delayed onset of muscle soreness (I think!)

I did take the week off, but I don't think I necessarily needed to. I say, listen to your body.

Also, I'm thinking about skipping the "special workouts" and making that my week off, kinda bored with the same exercises I'm used to switching up my weight lifting routines every 2 weeks and am very excited about getting into stage 2
