Default shoulder press wt ques?

Today I did 30lb each arm shoulder presses on stage 1 b-3. 35 lbs was a no go even though the 30 was a ok ! Anyway, I asked a trainer at the gym what I should do because a 10 total add would be to much right now. He looked at me shocked & said 30lb is really too much for a woman !! He is really nice & wasn't being a jerk by no means, he just didn't want me to risk a shoulder injury w/ that much weight..He said the women that he has trained for a long time are only up to 15lb each ( I laughed & said "I know, iv'e seen you with those PINK dumbbells"). In u-tube I have seen women lift more than 30lb ! So , do I need to move up in weight, I have b4 coming up on Wed & do 8 reps? It kinda is crazy to stay at 30 & do lower reps, but I know I'm not ready to jump to 35.. I can't even get the 35 up in position! He recommended ( if I was going to do 30 ) doing a slower rep or doing 8- 4x? Thanks guys & gals

I do 30lbs each arm as well...so he obviously hasn't been training his women hard enough. Does your gym have any small magnetic weights to add to the ends of your dumbbells? If not, I think slowing the reps down is a good option. And when you can safely lift the 35lbs bells into position, try doing a couple and then bumping back down to 30lbs. if you need to. You'll eventually move up. Good luck!

I do 30 pounds too. Another option would be to wrap one or two-pound ankle weights around your writsts.
