I did HIIT on the treadmill this morning, and sometimes it took me about 50-60 seconds of the rest time just to get down to that lower heart rate. Might be a stupid question, but maybe somebody can indulge me.
It's not a stupid question at all. You don't have to maintain the lower heart rate. You're ready to go again as soon as your heart rate slows.

Yeah. It was fun. He always calls me outside to help whenever he's going to be swinging the sledgehammer, because he knows I like to do it.

Ok, and while I'm bugging you guys with my incessant questions (tell me to stop, really)...what do you do when the treadmill slips when you're sprinting. Is that a me issue or more likely a treadmill issue? I had it on 7 when I was doing my HIIT sprints, and I found I had to hold on because it kept slipping and I'd almost lose my balance. It's bad enough that I've fallen off the ball a couple of times doing the Prone Jackknife--I don't need to fall off the treadmill, too! lol

Thanks, Lisa! I suspected that was it, so I'll keep doing it that way. I was proud of myself for getting through the 30 min set of intervals today, and I bet it's just going to keep improving!

Either use another treadmill or just do your HIIT workouts somewhere else. And report the slippage to the gym's management. The treadmill is probably the worst place to do HIIT. It just isn't designed to manage the quick changes of pace.

I don't know how long we worked on it. A long time. But we laughed and had fun together, which made it even better. That sledgehammer will get your heart rate up for sure!
Just could not resist, Lisa
