Default Yet Another Newby!

Hi everyone!I've had the book since it first came out ,but just started the program this week because I was finishing up my last program.I did workout A with no problems but today starting workout B I pulled a back muscle doing dead lifts.I was using 75 lbs and I don't think it was too much weight I assume my form was bad.I'm going to retry workout B in a couple days and use lighter weight until I figure out what I'm doing.I've never lifted weights before so this is all new to me.
Some background on me-I'm 43 and never worked out until 2 years ago when I was finally able to quit smoking after 25 years. I've only done home workouts with DVDs and have never seen the inside of a gym.I've lost about 20 lbs and need to lose 10 more.I really like this forum and have learned a lot from all of you. It's great to see so many women going hardcore!

Welcome! I've only been around for a few days, but I think you'll love it here! These women are a wealth of information! I quit smoking 155 days ago, after 15 years I am so glad I'm done with that nastiness!

I am loving the program, I hope you do too

Thanks for the welcome ladies!
-MissJane those videos are awesome!I think I'm going to practice with the bar like Tracey did in front of a mirror to make sure my form is correct.
-Wendy neat another 43 yo Wendy I knew this place was cool!
-Stringbean glad to hear you kicked the nasty habit as well congrats!
Ok everyone my back really hurts today.I'm hoping it's nothing serious.I have an appointment with my Chiroprator on Monday so I'll have him take a look at it.Hopefully I'll feel better before then.I'll work on some stretching and see if that helps.

Welcome Wendy! There are lots of good videos in the training FAQ section too under Squat Rx ... for squatting obviously!! Also there is a deadlift article by Mark Rippetoe which is very helpful in explaining proper form and the difference between the squat and deadlift. I know Lisa~ posted a link to it somewhere on here, but if you google Mark Rippetoe deadlift it should come up. (I think it is linked from the Crossfit website IIRC)

Another idea is to video yourself doing your exercises and people here will help you with your form. I'm pretty sure I have my deadlifts down now...but I'll be taking video of my squats any day now for some help! Welcome!!!

Wow thanks everyone for the welcomes and advice! This is such an awesome group here. My back is feeling a little better today so hopefully I'll be back to working out on Monday. If my back is still too sore to do the deadlifts I'll skip those for a bit and try to do everything else.

I think you'd be better served to lower the weight (there is nothing "bad" in doing so) and work on deadlift form instead of abandoning the exercise in the next workout.
