Default Thank you, Lisa and Mr.Rippetoe - I got deadlift!

This is what happened to my knees almost every time I did deadlifts (especially with heavy weight):

but thanks to Lisa~ (who suggested reading an article by Mark Riptpeoe "Analysis of the Deadlift") I found my mistake. It was the position of scapular in relationship to the bar.

My scapulae were behind the bar, rather than directly over it. It made all the difference in the world! I was ready to give up on this great exercise, thinking with my long legs I was not made to deadlift . But today I even went up further in load - 145 lbs (I weigh 141 lbs) !

Thank you, Lisa~ ! This is a great place.....

You're welcome. I love deadlifts. Greatest exercise of all.

yay! way to go! It is not a great feeling to do body weight for reps!?

I have worked and worked on form but still bang my shins from time to time.

So, just out of weird random thoughts... isn't deads supposed to be an exercise that gives mechanical advantage to long-limbed people versus squats in which us shortiez have the advantage?

Yes, yes, yes... Aoife has bizarre, totally unrelated thoughts after a full day of classes and rehearsal and crap. So what?

Yes. From what I know:

1. Squats require a short torso and femur (thigh bone).

2. Deadlifts are best with the above for squats and also LONG arms.

I got long torso and long femur. So my arms, being proportioned to the rest of my bod do give me that 'gorilla' advantage when deadlifting.

With squats I am doing OK for now (squatting bodyweight for reps), but we'll see how I do when I increase the weight. I found with my physique front squats are where it's at for me. But I gotta work on wrist flexion.

Lisa~ might have a better answer here.

No. Taller people have to move the bar farther. Unless you're talking about people with long monkey arms and normal to shorter stature, then yes.
