Default Squat & Ouch

Hi

On my last workout I did squats using 60 lbs barbell. After, I started checking videos on this forum about them, as I had not done them previously in training sessions. Anyway, I realized I was probably not going down low enough, so tonight I figured I try bending more to bring my thighs parallel to the floor.

On my second or third squat while pushing back up I felt something pull pretty hard in middle of my outter thigh. I managed to push up, but it hurt. I did a couple of more but was unable to finish my set of 12.

I walked it out and squated using just bodyweight, but could feel the same pain, albeit not as intense. So being pigheaded about it, got the bar back up and tried again, managed a few, but could go as low as the first set.

I noticed that after the very first squat I angled my feet to point out a bit, it seemed more conformtable that way, but am wondering if this could have been what caused the pain.

I don't think I pulled anything seriously, but any advise??? Am I doing something wrong, using to much weight (I worked up to the 60 lbs)

Does the effect of the squat dimish if you don't go as low as the thighs being parallel to the floor.

Thanks much
