This article is talking about the new actress in the Terminator TV series not having the same body as Linda Hamilton did in T3. Photos of both actresses are in the above article.
Personally I don't care too much. When Hollywood can produce a female actress with some muscle to play a role, that would be fine. But I don't watch a show and think she's too skinny (I do oftentimes think she's too "young" to be the wife of the male actor, but that's a different discussion.)
All I can think about is Lucy Lawless in Xena as a female that looked the part.
BTW, I always thought Linda Hamilton was too lean in her T3 role, but it did work for the movie.
I really like the new Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicals show. But if we're gonna compare, Linda Hamilton had the body. I mean, when you think about it, if you're supposed to be able to run with big guns and jump over stuff, well, you'd be a lot stronger than Lena, for sure. Stick thin = no core strength. This character would ideally have an athletic build. But hey, it's TV. It's a good show. Nothing to get riled up about. Lena's just not my idea of an ideal body. Linda Hamilton comes a lot closer.
I agree - the stick is not the right physique for the part and they might have missed the boat in that regard - maybe they should have spent the month she says it would have taken for her to get buff <g>.
Linda's physique went a long way towards selling the character in the film - including the mental toughness and dedication.
I do agree with Lisa~ though - nothing to get riled up about. They just missed a chance to cast a different body type than is ubiquitous on TV and one where it would have made sense to cast one.
I also find the new Sarah connor character a little unbelievable. If you're kicking ass and taking names, you'd be much more athletic. Look at Jennifer Garner when she did Alias. She always looked the part!

Today was grocery shopping day again so I sat and pondered in the tortilla aisle for a while. Found and bought for the first time, whole wheat "carb balance" tortillas. They're good! And they have mega-fiber which was my main goal.
For tonight's dinner (for myself), I took one of the tortillas, plopped it on the Foreman grill, then added 1/2 cup of lowfat cottage cheese and a tiny bit of part-skim mozzarella to it. (I also had a pot of homemade black bean soup on the stove -- black beans, pinto beans, tomatoes, and tomato juice, plus seasonings.) When the tortilla was nicely grilled, I plopped it on a plate, topped with a mixture of 1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese and 1 cup of the bean soup.
YUM! And packed full of protein and fiber!
Diane, don't talk about beans...All day today I am reaping the 'benefits' of this fiber-rich food I consumed last night They are good for your heart, but the more you eat'em the more you....you-know-what.
Linda Hamilton's buff look was acceptable because in the 80's women's bodybuilding was a fad. Nowdays women are told that stick thin skinny is the ideal. Look at Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and Ashley (or is it Kate? who cares?) Olsen. They're anorexic and everyone is all OMG about it but really they're held up as role models.
It's crazy I tells ya!

Incorrect. Her buff look was acceptable because it was NOT the stereotypical steroid using female bodybuilder. Compare:
With:
Mind you, Hamilton needs to ditch the smoke and the AK-47, but she is still much more feminine than the latter.
Hamilton is not even bigger than Heady either. It's just that Heady lacks any definition of a fit, capable fighter.

That's hollywood and it's been that way for a long time. Michelle Pfifer was that way, long before Lohan and Ritchie and the Olsens.
Don't look at what hollywood tells you what you should look like. I've heard too many guys ask how they can look like Brad Pitt in "Fight Club."
I think we have a tendency to OVERCOMPENSATE for our own less then perfect appearance. We go from a perceived extreme of one side to the perceived other side. Also note, that all of the women you just cited are on a self-destructive spiral downward due to drug use and poor health.
Ok, my bad. T1 was 1984 and T2 was 1991 after the bodybuilding fad had peaked and steriods were rampant.

Well, beyond that. Hamilton isn't that big. She's muscular mainly because she's lean. She's still very feminine but looks athletic, like a tennis player. Her musculature is probably pretty firm, back then at least, but still has an appealing amount of fat over that. I think she's still pretty hot today.
Steroids are still in use in women's body building. It depends on the circuit. The more credible circuits are getting away from orthodox body building and calling it figure or fitness competitions, screening for steroids and showing women as athletes, not bull dykes.
Rachel MacLish is still considered the founder of women's body building/sculpting and she didn't shoot for hyoooge. Somewhere after her, the ideology got perverted and women started taking steroids.
I know it's just my personal opinion, but I am a man, I know what we like. Some like the fluff, others like the buff. Few like the steroidal look.
Whenever I see photos that a production studio puts out as a promo, the first thing I think is "PHOTOSHOP!". I didn't google her, but the only other photos they show of her, her upper body is covered with a baggy shirt dress (which is probably sample size though).
I haven't seen the TV show, so I don't have any clue where it starts or picks up but Linda hamilton in the first terminator wasn't buff. She was a plain jane. She didn't get buffed till forced to kill time training in a mental ward. Perhaps the show hasn't got to that progression point yet so really not need to buff up heady.
Regardless the tester phase of a tv show has a limited budget as is and they aren't likely going to alter body comp and throw tons of money towards trainers until they know they have a hit on their hands. I would wager you will see a body comp change in the next season if it sticks around.
I personally think it is a stretch at this point to say it is some sort of statement of a strong female in America, I think it is more so lack of funding and direction. IMO.
All I can think about is Lucy Lawless in Xena as a female that looked the part.
Good example.
Although as a fan, I will say people (the general public, who didn't really watch the show) over exaggerate how "big" or "muscular" she is. Even compare her to Chyna, lol.
Her believability factor as an actress had more to do with her skill in conveying a real warrior fight scene, and her acting which didn't appear forced, and mainly because she was actually intimidating, more than anything. She actually looked like she can hold her own in a fight against Hercules or Ares (the God of war). Being almost 6 feet tall standing next to those actors kind of helped too
I don't think lucy lawless was all that buff as Xena... she just had the attitude.

I don't really watch TV so this one was off my radar screen. But Linda Hamilton! I have wanted to do pull-ups since the mental ward scene in T2. She was awesome.

And, if I remember correctly, she didn't do those pull-ups....her sister did them and was her body double.

My wife and I watched the entire second season on DVD. That's her real body. She wasn't ripped, but she had wide shoulders and looked like she knew what to do in a fight.
I just googled it and her sister was her body double for something, but I can't find that she did the pull-ups, so that must have been her!
Actually, her sister was a full stand-in because they are twins. From imdb:
Quote:
Linda Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie Hamilton Gearren was used as a double in scenes involving two "Sarah Connors" (i.e., when the T1000 was imitating her), and in a scene not in the theatrical release (but on the DVD) as a mirror image of Linda.
Her identical twin sister Leslie Hamilton Gearren was Linda's double in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). Leslie is seen when Sarah is remembering playing with John at the park and when the T-1000 is impersonating her.
