Hollywood image of a strong woman
I hope this is appropriate to write about in this forum. I want it to be a woman's discussion.
Leaner Lena Headey too 'emaciated' for role in the TV Terminator | the Daily Mail
This article is talking about the new actress in the Terminator TV series not having the same body as Linda Hamilton did in T3. Photos of both actresses are in the above article.
Personally I don't care too much. When Hollywood can produce a female actress with some muscle to play a role, that would be fine. But I don't watch a show and think she's too skinny (I do oftentimes think she's too "young" to be the wife of the male actor, but that's a different discussion.)
All I can think about is Lucy Lawless in Xena as a female that looked the part.
BTW, I always thought Linda Hamilton was too lean in her T3 role, but it did work for the movie.

I like the caption about how Linda Hamilton was "seriously toned." Ummm. . . she was just really lean.

I really like the new Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicals show. But if we're gonna compare, Linda Hamilton had the body. I mean, when you think about it, if you're supposed to be able to run with big guns and jump over stuff, well, you'd be a lot stronger than Lena, for sure. Stick thin = no core strength. This character would ideally have an athletic build. But hey, it's TV. It's a good show. Nothing to get riled up about. Lena's just not my idea of an ideal body. Linda Hamilton comes a lot closer.

I agree - the stick is not the right physique for the part and they might have missed the boat in that regard - maybe they should have spent the month she says it would have taken for her to get buff <g>.
Linda's physique went a long way towards selling the character in the film - including the mental toughness and dedication.
I do agree with Lisa~ though - nothing to get riled up about. They just missed a chance to cast a different body type than is ubiquitous on TV and one where it would have made sense to cast one.

Linda Hamilton's arms rocked.
I also find the new Sarah connor character a little unbelievable. If you're kicking ass and taking names, you'd be much more athletic. Look at Jennifer Garner when she did Alias. She always looked the part!

I'm in agreement. When T2 played and first scene of Hamilton was her doing pull-ups...yeah!
Heady looks good, but she doesn't look like a fighter. More like a model.

Linda Hamilton all the way, baby! The 'stick girl' don't cut it
Just like Cynic says, "Heady looks good, but she doesn't look like a fighter. More like a model."
IMO, they took a Victoria Secret model and put a gun in her hands )))))

Diane, don't talk about beans...All day today I am reaping the 'benefits' of this fiber-rich food I consumed last night They are good for your heart, but the more you eat'em the more you....you-know-what.

Linda Hamilton's buff look was acceptable because in the 80's women's bodybuilding was a fad. Nowdays women are told that stick thin skinny is the ideal. Look at Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and Ashley (or is it Kate? who cares?) Olsen. They're anorexic and everyone is all OMG about it but really they're held up as role models.
It's crazy I tells ya!

Incorrect. Her buff look was acceptable because it was NOT the stereotypical steroid using female bodybuilder. Compare:
With:
Mind you, Hamilton needs to ditch the smoke and the AK-47, but she is still much more feminine than the latter.
Hamilton is not even bigger than Heady either. It's just that Heady lacks any definition of a fit, capable fighter.

That's hollywood and it's been that way for a long time. Michelle Pfifer was that way, long before Lohan and Ritchie and the Olsens.
Don't look at what hollywood tells you what you should look like. I've heard too many guys ask how they can look like Brad Pitt in "Fight Club."
I think we have a tendency to OVERCOMPENSATE for our own less then perfect appearance. We go from a perceived extreme of one side to the perceived other side. Also note, that all of the women you just cited are on a self-destructive spiral downward due to drug use and poor health.

Ok, my bad. T1 was 1984 and T2 was 1991 after the bodybuilding fad had peaked and steriods were rampant.

Well, beyond that. Hamilton isn't that big. She's muscular mainly because she's lean. She's still very feminine but looks athletic, like a tennis player. Her musculature is probably pretty firm, back then at least, but still has an appealing amount of fat over that. I think she's still pretty hot today.
Steroids are still in use in women's body building. It depends on the circuit. The more credible circuits are getting away from orthodox body building and calling it figure or fitness competitions, screening for steroids and showing women as athletes, not bull dykes.
Rachel MacLish is still considered the founder of women's body building/sculpting and she didn't shoot for hyoooge. Somewhere after her, the ideology got perverted and women started taking steroids.
I know it's just my personal opinion, but I am a man, I know what we like. Some like the fluff, others like the buff. Few like the steroidal look.
Just in case I was misunderstood.

I thought Michelle Rodriguez looked credible as a butt-kicking cop in Lost:
Maybe it's because I was a skinny kid and the skinny kid always loses fights, but I can't buy an emaciated supermodel type as an action hero.
