Default PWO shake vs. breakfast

Hi everyone! I'm excited to join this forum.
I'm happy to say that today was my very first workout of Stage 1. I am pumped for this. I have to admit that when I first saw the workout list I thought: "that's going to be easy" but I'm happy to say that it kicked my butt!

It's possible this question has been discussed, but I've searched quite a bit and not really seen it adressed directly.

I workout first thing in the morning. I usually eat about 30 min to 45 min beforehand, and generally will have a bit of soymilk and cereal. I consider that a snack, not a breakfast, and for breakfast will have some scrambled eggs on a whole wheat bun with or orange or something like that after my workout. Timing is like this:
6am: get up, eat light snack
6:30-7:30: workout
8:30: eat breakfast
I'm wondering how to incorporate this PWO shake thing. This morning I had a shake BEFORE I lifted and then my normal breakfast afterwards, which seemed ok, though I felt like I had a bit too much in my belly. It wouldn't have worked for cardio, that's for sure.

Anyway, how do other am workout people do this? Do you have your PWO shake with your breakfast? Or instead of your breakfast? Or have it, and then have breakfast like an hour or two later?

I'm kind of inclined to just not have a PWO shake at all, but they are so highlighted in this program as important I don't want to leave them by the curb.

Your thoughts on this would be appreciated! I look forward to chattin' with you all!

hi, I have been experimenting with this on weight training days:

4:45am--preworkout shake-- 4oz egg whites, 4 oz apple juice, frozen mango, pineapple
during workout sipping ICE (calorie free BCAA)
post workout (around 6:45am)--muscle milk light RTD and a banana

breakfast around 9 am

lunch around 12 noon

snack around 3pm

dinner around 6pm

sometimes snack at 830p

I battle with this every day. One thing I've found is that if I don't eat enough for breakfast on workout days, I am FAMISHED in late afternoon.

5:15 am I eat a light snack pre-workout (usually just a few bites of a protein bar)

6:15/6:30 am PWO shake (6 oz skim milk, 1 sc PP)

7:30/7:45 am breakfast (usually either scrambled eggs with toast; french toast made with protein powder mixed in; today was half a grapefruit and toast)

I think the PWO shake is essential to get the protein going in your body for recovery. If I were going to drop either the PWO or b-fast, I'd drop the b-fast; even though it is my favorite meal. For now I am continuing as-is, though.

Sorry to hijack this thread but where do you purchase ICE. But, I used to run in the AM and I used to eat oatmeal before my run.

I usually workout around 6:00 am. I can't eat that early in the morning. So, I have half of my PWO before I workout for a little kick, then finish the other half after. I eat a full breakfast about an hour after that.

I drink a 20 gram 120 calorie protein shake as soon as I wake up, then on workout days I get to the gym within the hour. After workout I eat within the hour (varies w/ yogurt, eggs, oatmeal, etc). On nonlifting days I keep to the same schedule but try to lower my carbs and calories a bit.

barrett, I get ICE at bodybuilding.com . I think the product helps me.

toni, I like acheivone--a protein latte drink with 20g protein 120 cal. it is yummy, I use it in place of musclemilk light sometimes.

Very helpful feedback guys, thanks.
I think I'll try to do what you do, Tracy, and have half of my shake first and then the other half after...and see how it goes that way.
