Default What is up with this pain?

I just completed my 3rd workout A session, and I just had the most bizarre experience. While doing my first set of pushups, my obliques were just killing me. Not a sore muscle kind of pain. More like the round ligament pain I often experienced during my pregnancies. I pushed through the first set, but I had to stop halfway through the second set, and I couldn't do the prone jackknifes at all. When I'm not doing the exercises, I can't feel the pain at all.

I've had a lot of aches and pains during workouts in my 38 years, but I've never experienced anything like this! Any ideas??

Well I'm stumped. That's a Julie question!

If it doesn't hurt tomorrow, I wouldn't worry about it ... could have just been a muscle cramp.

If it's sore tomorrow, we'll talk ... so keep me posted!

It's still there. It's not a muscle cramp. I ran track in junior high and high school, so I'm very familiar with those, LOL! I can't remember if you have kids, Julie (I think you do), but this feels exactly like when you're pregnant and you belly starts stretching out--what my OB always called round ligament pain. It's on the sides of my abdominal wall (both sides), and it just feels like it's pulling really hard, and it's painful--not sore--painful. I've never felt this pain before when I wasn't pregnant, so it took my by surprise. I've got pretty strong abs (if I could just get rid of the flab over top that covers them up!), and I haven't felt anything more than the normal new workout soreness until now when I've done these exercises.

I'm really stumped, too.

Hmmmm ... I remember that round ligament pain vividly ... not sure what would cause that type of pain outside of a muscle strain in that area. Hernias I believe have similar pain and although they are more of a "man's" injury, women can get them ... might be worth having checked if it is not better in a few days ...

Thanks, Julie. I will certainly do that. It's on both sides, though, so I REALLY hope that's not what it is!

BTW, after I posted this I went and read your blog. It's really awesome! Oh, and if your adorable daughter loves dance as much as mine does, start saving your $ now! Ashley is 9, started at 3 with her first couple of recitals looking very much like your dd's. Now we're in a whirlwind of rehearsals, costume fittings, competitions, extra rehearsals, and speed check-writing competitions for the parents! It's SO much fun, though, and it really keeps them out of trouble. She has to keep her grades up and her nose clean to be allowed to do it, and she'll do anything to dance, so she works hard!

Carey,
That sounds painful! I hope it goes away and stays away.

I know my knees are killing me. It's the squats, I think I'm doing them correctly, I look in the mirror sideways and my knees are even with my ankles and not over the toes but everytime I bend down to pick something up, my knees ache terribly.

Go to the injury forum and post about your knees there after reading the sticky at the top of the forum.

When injury questions get buried in other threads, those who can help (myself included) often don't see them ... and the information can be helpful for others, but hard for them to find!
