Default NROL Strength 1---> can it be used during a fat loss phase?

I started school again this week meaning I now have to spend many hours a week on public transportation--- bad in terms of boredom, but I end up reading a crap load during the year because of this. Anyway, the last two days I decided to re-read NROL quickly and it turns out that the strength programs look pretty good. I am opting to not follow the fat loss programs for several reasons. What I'm wondering is if most people think the strength programs supplemented with some cardio could work well for fat loss (assuming a caloric deficit)? What I'm thinking of doing is either 3 or the full 4 days a week of weight training and add on to that 3-5 HIIT sessions or do both some SS cardio and some short HIIT sessions durings the week (for example, 2x30 minutes steady state and 2x15 minutes HIIT). How would this work out in your opinions?

I'm doing exactly what you're suggesting right now. Strength 1 with some random HIIT sessions thrown in while trying to stay in a kcal deficit. Seems to be working so far since I'm down about 5 lbs with not strength loss.

I have no idea how to answer your question but I am curious what are you reasons for not doing FL programs.

You definitely shouldn't be doing HIIT 5x per week. 3 at the most IMO. If you're doing NROL and you can do HIIT more than 3 times a week, I think something is wrong. Your time would be better spent working harder in the workings you're doing than changing to 5x HIIT.

Anyway, you can definitely lose fat on a Strength program. Granted, they will obviously be better suited for gaining muscle when you have that goal, but fat loss is all about diet. You can use whatever lifting regimen you want to essentially reach that goal.

I don't see why you're doing strength instead of FL, but that's ultimately your call. I think SS and HIIT both have their place, so my recommendation would be to do MISS once or twice a week and the same with HIIT.

Depending on the size of your deficit this may be too much work. If I had the choice I would drop the cardio part of this.
