Default Advice for intermediate NROL-er

Hi everyone.

I'm not consistendly on this forum and have not completed a training log, but I have completed almost every program in NROL over the years and am quite happy with where I am physically. I've taken breaks due to life's challenges and a bicycle accident. Recently tried Chad Waterbury's Huge in a Hurry but it left me in knots, and I'm not even sure if i want to actually get "Huge in a Hurry" Honestly, at this point I'd just like to focus on stretches, maintaining the body I have and pain free lifting, but I almost feel bored with the NROL programs. Any advice would be great. Thanks everyone!

Nick

Check out the Men's Fitness Belly Off Club. Schuler helped create some of those programs. Many of the same basic principles, but the Saturday Challenge can be a butt kicker. Also, check out a blog called Male Pattern Fitness for reviews of other programs out there.

I did most of NROL as well, and got bored. I was starting to not enjoy the gym. So, I just moved on to something else. I picked up built for show. It is very similar to NROL though, but just a little bit different. Enough to keep me from being bored.

I'd suggest trying something else. You can always come back to NROL later.

I also decided to start jumping rope. It's not lifting weights, but I find it fun to do on my off days, and it's a good change of pace.

Huge in a hurry looks interesting, what was your experience with it, how long did you do it for?

It's been my experience that one will get bored with any program after a while, so throwing something new in is a good thing.

I put NROL down last fall, did a 5x5, and then picked up some kettlebells. Now I'm thinking of going back to NROL for something.

Variety is the spice of life.

I started the Huge in a Hurry "break-in" program and perhaps I did it incorrectly. The sets of 35 with quick reps were challenging for sure. I was paying attention to form and speed, as well as appropriate weight for each exercise, I thought. Days after I was in knots. Can't afford to get a massage right now, but I really wanted to get one. Ouch!

So, I only did two work outs in the beginning "break-in" and wasn't sure if I wanted to continue. I've gotten a lot of comment from people though along the lines of "Whoa buddy, just how big you wanting to get?" from co-workers and the person I'm dating. So, I wasn't sure if Huge in a Hurry was even something I wanted to do anyway. I think I'm pretty happy with my size right now.

I did most of NROL back when it first came out. Great workouts. I also learned a lot about building my own workouts (wave sets, etc...)

I recently picked up Huge In A Hurry and it's been great so far (I'm 7 weeks into it). Very different from other workouts I have done. The focus on reps is fun and has worked. It also looks like the workout changes up at a minimum every 4 weeks. Make sure to do the break-in and use it as the time to change your mindset. It took me the full 2 weeks to change my mindset from I need 5x5 to I need 25 perfect reps.
