I am confused about body mass index measurements. I am 6'3" 230 pounds. BMI calculators tell me I am close to the obese category. However, my body fat measurement is below 15%. I feel fit and proportionate. Do I need to pay any heed to BMI?
I'm confused on this measurement, too. It doesn't seem a really good indicator of anything. It does not take into consideration a person's body fat percentage. Seems useless to me.

for individuals it is pretty meaningless, especially for outliers (e.g. very fit and muscular individuals) - as a broad screening measure for a population it may have more value -
I feel BMI serves it purpose for younger people... toddlers, and perhaps pre-teens.. but is pointless for adults. Body fat percentage is a more valuable number.
IMHO, BMI is a dated and useless measurement. There are too many exceptions to the BMI index. Anyone who is even moderately athletic usually shows up as obese. It also hides people who look skinny, but may have lots of internal fat (the worse kind to have).
Die BMI!

I will say that measuring BF% is a moving target as well, but the BMI is crap. At least with BF% (measured with calipers or Bodpod), you can get within the ballpark and gather some useful information.
