Default Alternative to Step Up

Hi guys,

looking for an alternative to the barbell step up, my gym doesn't have a box that I can use for this exercise.

A friend of mine was a member of a pretty "exclusive" gym where I'm from and they didn't have anything to use for step ups either so he started doing them on an open bench. After a couple of sets, one of the employees of the gym came over and told him that he is not allowed to step on the bench because it may cause damage to the padding on it. He explained to her that the only reason he was using the bench was because they didn't have any boxes or aerobic steps for him to use and that if it was that big of a deal he would like to cancel his membership. The employee let him finish his step ups on the bench and when he returned to the gym a few days later for his next workout they had a bunch of brand new steps and boxes for people to use.
