How can we trust this guy that tried running once and gave up? Well, since I want to run, I'm thinking I'll simply run after working out, since it's through a different metabolic pathway anyway, and I'll telepathically utilize my mind power to tell my body, "don't break down muscle, just increase endurance." You know, I might have to run a mile to find that magical tree to climb.
Nice book with some nice spins on all the possibilities out there in genetics and physiology, and I am looking foward to reading NROL for women which is now in the mail.
PS: Is that him in the cover of the book? He looks more like a body builder than a gymnast/ power house; however, great book!

Matt Perry (aka PowerManDL), pay attention...this is trolling.

No, that is neither Lou nor Alwyn. That is a fitness model and a standard practice in the publishing industry.
No one said to not run or do some form of cardio. It's marathon levels of cardio that will seriously impact your gains.
Seals and rangers seem to do it just fine, and the need for endurance seems an easy one to me. It may hurt certain types of gains, but help others. Perhaps for the task of living longer and injury prevention we don't necessarily need to be able to do an Ironman, but it comes down to what someone likes of course. I just wish NROL elaborated a bit more on what exactly to expect if training for endurance as well. If someone has the time, he mentioned working out for an hour and then running for an hour (although he didn't say in this order) and I think that is a good idea.

SEALs, rangers, SpecOps and other elite soldiers are hardly indicative of the mainstream. That is why the word "elite" is often applied to them. They are also not huge, except when genetics make them so. For these class of soldiers, extreme ends of physique is detrimental to their survival.

I hear you. I mean, don't get me wrong, he even started out his book by saying we should be skeptical, which gives him a casual and humerous tone throughout the read that makes it enjoyable, and also let's the reader try to connect the dots in his or her own way, however, when he is so honest he let's the reader know about his upcoming deadline and about how he changed his mind a few times, it borders the line between my appreciation and my wanting something more. Who's that guy with the warrior training book? (sledgehammers and stuff) I'd really like to see something as casual and humerous as this one, but also with a passionate and warrior edge to it, but I still think this book was great, I just can't trust it to solve my specific needs. Thanks for the "elite" compliment by the way. Just playing. I'm not really an Army Ranger. Damnit.
In conclusion I'd like to say that if he had in fact not gave up in running, his conclusions about the effect of running might of been different, but good read.
Don't get me wrong I think it's the best book for beginners I've seen, and I am definitely helping his sales out at the gym, I would just like to see him be able to run to a tree that he could them climb, rather than get eaten by that lion, since he is such a rascalling dare devil.
