The shake size doesn't really matter, as long as you're getting the most from the workout. If more food or shake makes for better lifting, then have more.
As to your size and calories, it's your OVERALL calorie surplus that's going to make you grow, not the workout drinks. They count as part of the overall calories, but they are not magic. They are an easy way to get more cals, though.
