Okay, I knew I would have to lower the weight to do the snatch grip deadlift but didn't expect this result. It seems that even with the lower weight, my grip gives out at about the 7 or 8 rep mark. I can lower the weight even more but I'm afraid that I'll have to go so low, I will not be getting any benefits of the lift.
I would like to go with a higher weight and less reps but that's not what FL is about at this point (first week). Does anyone have a good suggestion (or three)?
I was having trouble with my snatch grip deadlift, because I have sweaty baby-sized hands. I started using chalk, and I was actually able to increase my snatch-grip deadlift 20lbs the first time I used it. It really helps.
I bought my chalk at EMS. It was rock climbers chalk. There is always straps as well, but I would try chalk first. The mixed grip helps as well, but I just don't like how it feels.
I'll second the recommendation for chalk. You could also bring your hands in just a little. Keep your grip wide, but it doesn't have to be outside the rings.
In this case, does a mixed grip on the snatch grip DL kind of defeat the purpose of using snatch-grip? That's not really a snatch grip... it's a wide mixed grip.
I was wondering about this a bit, too, defeating the purpose of the snatch grip dl.
The mixed grip does help some but my grip just does not last long enough to do 12 reps with any sort of heavy weight. I'll try some straps and chalk and see what happens.
It can be hard on the ego, but you might make good progress swallowing your pride and and dropping to a lower weight. Even though it doesn't look much different than a convential DL, it's a new movement to you. So, I wouldn't really expect to come close to your normal DL weights. When I was doing NROL, my snatch-grip weights were much lower (like 60%) than my convential DL weights. At the high reps of FL-II, you might need to go even lower.

Yep, this worked. I dropped 50 pounds off the lift and got 2 sets of 12 and the last set of 9. Dropping the weight was not too bad ego wise since I see very few other people even doing deadlifts at this location (3 Urban Fitness's in town, this location is mostly lunch time crowd and I'm there at 6:15 p.m.) Come to think of it, I may be the only one I've ever seen do dl's at this location.
do something for your grip after your workouts aswell, like
1. farmers walk
2. plate pinching
3. just hanging from a pull up bar for as long as possible
or just wrap a towel around some of the lighter lifts to make the bar thicker, this'll help your grip endurance aswell.
In my third Workout B last Friday, the snatch grip deadlift became amazingly easier to hold, nothing different maybe just some adaptation. Consequently, I was able to lift more weight.
