Starting NROL
This is my first post, so hello to everyone.
I'm 29 years old and live in germany (please excuse some strange expressions if they appear). I found the book NROL while surfing on amazon.com. It's not well known in germany.
I started the program last week and will do my fourth workout this week. Without this forum I wouldn't be able to perform the exercises correctly, the thing with supersets and rests isn't understandable at all, especially when english isn't your first language.
The workouts are really exhausting, especially when you're in worst shape of your life, don't have much time before your 30th birthday, suffer from chronic neck-pain and work 9 hours a day bound to a desk.
I was a member in a gym for about 6 years, and never sticked to any program more than 3 months.
Hopefully this is all going to change and in one year from now, I'll be a ripped beast that doesn't fit through the front-door
BTW: Any other germans here, or anybody speaking a little german at all?
Regards,
flag

Welcome.
New Rules will kick your butt, hopefully in a good and rewarding way.

Wilkommen und Guten Tag, Mein Freund!!
I started NROL three weeks ago (I am in the Break-in routine). The first two sessions kicked my tail, but it does get better after that. My biggest hinderance before I started NROL was working 10-12 hours per day. I finally found a gym that is 24 hours, and it is great to go in there at night and have only 3 other people in the gym. Less distraction & less intimidation.
I hope that you stick with it. Viel Glueck, and keep us posted as to your progress!

Guten Tag zurück!
Good luck for you, i can't wait for my 5th workout to come. The first four workouts totally kicked my butt, but I enjoy it.
Tschüß (german for bye, with the sharp 'S', which doesn't exist in english ),

I do the workouts at home and try to substitute the exercises as good as possible if I don't have the equipement (i don't have a ball for the crunches and don't have a pull machine, i try pull-ups with a chair supporting me)
The gyms that are open 24/7 are starting in germany too. While working 9 hours a day, i also have to be on "stand-by" after work with a company phone by my side. I hope i can handle this and keep up the workouts for more than just a few weeks

If your terribly out of shape i would cut the workouts down and work towards a full workout.
eg.
Instead of 3x15 with a squat use 2x15 for the first workout and progress to 3x15 the second workout.
I'm not using NROL but i do have it, its not for the out of shape in my opinion. You want to be somewhat refreshed from training not beat down.
However, hard work is required to get in shape.

Thanks for that input.
Yesterday I did my 5th workout of NROL, almost with the 60 seconds rest between the sets (during my first workouts I completely missunderstood the concept). I was beaten down by the hard work, but it felt good. On the other side, I went cycling 20 km before my workout, so I was not only "warm", but also tired.
What freaks me out a little is that I don't progress with the pushups, yesterday I was worse than the workouts before, made only 2 times 12 and the remaining 3 on my knees.

That may just have to do with your energy levels, the amount you've recovered, your rest times, etc. You'll often find a bit of variation here or there and it's like "what the..?" but it's usually just some days are better than others.

Maybe you should grab the cats and use them to do renegade rows.

I'm sure the scratches and bites will totally be worth it. No pain, no gain...

Your job is to sit around and wait to pet them, and keep the well fed. Cat owner = doormat for cat.
