I own both books, and you can actually apply the same nutritional plan, although with men, their caloric needs will be higher. I'm guessing he has about 30-40 pounds of fat he wants to lose, so you really just need to stick to the basic guidelines and should see a big difference, which both books cover adequately. Now, once he loses most of the fat, and wants to get REALLY lean, then the diet gets a lot more advanced...
