Default Chin-up question

I'm currently doing FL-2, but i've been substituting lat pulldowns for the chin-ups. The reason is, the place were there are benches for me to do BSS, they don't have a straight bar to do chin ups. I would have to walk atleast 100yrds for a straight bar. They do have a dip/pullup station thing though. I could do chin-ups with my hands facing each other on it. Or chin ups, where my hands are slightly angled in, but a little wider than I would normally do a chin up.

Are either of these ok? Is there a big difference in which muscles are used depending on hand position? My instinct say's there isn't, but I was just wondering.

my opinion (worth what you pay for it) - there is more similarity for doing real chins/pullups regardless of hand position than there is for matching the hand position but changing from really moving your body through space to the lat machine. Others may disagree. In the end, I'm not sure it is a noticeable difference either way in the FL programs

Thumbs up I think it's a good plan...

I think the substitution is a good one. I'm using the opposite right now in FL-I. I workout at home and have a fair set-up but haven't been willing to fork out the $200 USD needed for the lat attachment on my rack. So I use the chins instead of lat pulls. I'm probably loosing a little something with the substitution. The muscles worked are nearly the same. In the end, I can only use the resources I have and make the best decisions using those resources.

OR your can walk 100 yrds.

I agree with Lisa. Use the neutral-grip position for your chin-ups.

Nope. You're gaining. Chin-ups always beat out lat pulldowns for difficulty and overall benefit.

Cool. I'll switch to the neutral grip chin-ups on the next set. Thanks Lisa's Squared and Moveon.
