Halfway through break in program!
I'm just over halfway through the break in program and I am feeling much better!
My form is much better, I can do all the sets but still huffing!
I use little or no weights on squats and lunges (25 pounds) but I can do it all with good form.
I was really out of shape, (just coming off injury) but my legs don't feel sore the next day any more so that is a good sign. My body weight of 235 is making the legs work plenty.
I've lost a few pounds but my muscles are growing so it will be miss leading scale wise.
After my next two weeks, I am on vacation so the timing is perfect for my time off. Then I start FL I.
Question, while on vacation should I do some cardio a few times a week?
John

If your goal is weight loss, go ahead and do some HIIT. If you don't know what that is, just head on over to the Cardio type forums and they will explain it in great detail for you.

I'll have access to an elliptical and treadmill while on vacation.
I do HIIT now so I'll continue to do some on my time off.
Thanks.

If you can do it all with good form, it's time to up the load.

I was thinking that today with the squats, I like them. (deadlifts also)
The static lunge is another story! I can barely get them done and my right leg is weaker than my left.
The single leg exercises are a killer!

Are you leading static lunges with your right leg? Single leg exercises are killer. I never did even out the tempo on them before moving on.
Now I'm doing Bugarian Split squats and it's not much easier.

Bulgarian Split Squats - fiendish!
I admit it - these are among my least favorite exercises. And when you get to FLII, you get to do them with a press. UGH!

I'm right handed and the book states to start with your left leg.
The book also states to start with the weaker leg! (My right leg)
A contradiction for me.
I'll try the other way around next time. (weaker leg first)

Most right handed people also have a right dominant leg but that isn't necessarily true (a right handed basketball player will probably develop a dominant left leg). I would assume that the correct instruction is to do your weaker leg first and the instruction to do left leg first is contingent on your left leg being the weaker leg.

I like doing them when I can go heavy w/ fewer reps. Doing them using such high reps make them a hated exercise.

Absolutely agree. I can't stand high rep lunges or single leg work, though I'll do them and I know that they help me. I like the heavier, lower reps because I figure that I can work harder to get them over with sooner.

FWIW- I'm right handed and my weak leg seems to be my right. This is the leg I most often have balance problems with BSS's.

Did you do sports where you were a thrower or even shoot baskets? You tend to balance on the off foot when you throw which shortchanges the same side leg on balance practice. So it might be dominant (your kicking leg) or even stronger, but it is likely less stable when balancing.
Or so I've heard.

I'm glad to see everyone hates BSS. I did the BSS's with overhead press for the second time the other day. That are so incredibly awful. It's indescribably how much I hate that exercise. The worst part is I don't think people realize how hard it is when they see you doing it. So, i'm there with 12 lb weights, sweating and cursing, and people are staring at me like what's the big deal.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that noticed this. You're right, people just stare at you in disbelief. "Come on! They're 12lb dumbbells! Why you crying?!?"
