Default Supersets and rest - confused...

When I do supersets on two exercises that have 15 reps per limb, do I rest between the two exercises or between each of the four sets?
i.e.
right lunge
rest
left lunge
rest
right single arm row
rest
left single arm row
rest

or

right lunge
left lunge
rest
right single arm row
left single arm row
rest

The second way....no rest between legs/arms. You rest between exercises.

Lou does mention that he leaves out information about Supersets and Rests on his Amazon blog. If you haven't read it, I recommend it.

I always thought supersets meant no rest between the exercises!?!?
I've been doing... eg chest, then straight onto back, then the stated rest before starting again

i like lou's explanation. i had been doing the supersets with no rests between the exercises too. i am curious to see how the quality of my lifting might go up by allowing myself to recover like this. thanks for the link.

That's the way I originally learned the terminology too. To me, a superset means no rest, an alternating set means to rest between the two lifts of the pair. But different authors use different terminology and in NROL "superset with full rest" = what you and I think of as alternating sets.
