Default New here, introduction

Hi,

My name is John. I'm engaged to DirtyMartini who has posted here for a short time, hence the similarity in username.

We are assembling a home gym that consists of:
exercise bike - already own
powerblocks (to 90lb) - already own
adjustable bench - already own
olympic weights - already own
power rack and high/low pully - on its way

I've been working out (HIIT on the bike and full body moderate rep workouts with dumbells) for a few weeks. I saw NROL and really liked it. I told my fiance about NROL4W and she picked it up and has been doing the workouts.

I'm going to switch my workouts to NROL break-in as soon as the power rack gets assembled. That timing will also be convenient because I have a seminar for work at the end of March and I'll be able to take my break after the break-in program that week.

My goal is fat loss and I haven't lifted seriously (ie squats, deads or heavy benches) in about 8 years.

I plan to start a workout log here when I begin the NROL programs. According to my tanita bodyfat scale I have lost 12 lbs of fat and gained 3 lbs of lean mass in the four weeks ending last Thursday. I'm going to get some calipers and measuring tape to keep better records of my progress while doing NROL.

Welcome.

Great start so far. You've picked a great plan to follow.

Welcome to the club! NROL should help you reach your goals. You do have an awesome start already as Hunter said.

Thanks!

I just did my first break-in workout A. Man that was tough. I had done all of those exercises before, and probably all of them in one workout before but the pace killed me (I know everyone says that but it is worse than I expected).

I just have to say that lunges after squats are insane. Alwyn Cosgrove needs to be locked up to prevent him from doing further harm to humanity.

Unfortunately the vendor I ordered my power rack from really dropped the ball (I finally canceled the order today but I might have to do a CC chargeback since they have a habit of never answering voice messages or emails and getting them on the phone is hard and I am not waiting for a confirmation that they canceled it) so I had to do squats without a rack. I was able to easily clean and press 95 lbs but the weight should have been a bit higher and getting it back off my back was tough, definitely couldn't do it with any more weight.

I also started TNT (plan A) Sunday. To be honest if I had it to do over again I would have started TNT with at least a week before starting the workout plan because I think I am just now getting to the hard part of the low carb adjustment.

Oh well, what doesn't kill me will make me stronger.

I'll start a log soon but I don't have a snappy name yet.

ETA: This is John (PerfectMartini). I gave my computer to my mom and I guess my fiance was logged into this one. My bad.

That was rambling, I shouldn't post after working out.

We got a power rack and high low pulley station locally yesterday. Should be delivered by Monday and then I can do all the exercises without any substitutions or compromises. It cost almost twice as much as the Powertec rack and pulley attachment we tried to buy online (from dumbellbuddy.com) but after that experience I almost felt better the more money I spent with someone else. We still haven't been able to get a refund for the other rack but I am confident the credit card chargeback will be successful. It's now been over a week since we have had any contact despite multiple emails and voicemails and several calls a day being made during business hours. At this point unless the guy who runs that place is in the hospital I cannot understand what is going on. If he was on vacation or something I would think he would have reflected that in his voicemail message (or set up out of office assistant in outlook).

I had read several positive reviews about the vendor online and his ebay rating is 97% positive which isn't anything to write home about but isn't particularly terrible either so I really don't understand what could be happening.

Anyway, I am pretty excited about getting my home gym set up because I am not a big gym fan (mostly the waiting and I could never get used to going at an unpopular hour) and once the stuff gets delivered I can do almost every exercise in NROL without any compromises. If I get a roman chair (have room for it) and a medicine ball and maybe an attachment or two for the pulley station I should be able to do every single exercise in the book.

There are some good threads in the training forum about setting up a home gym. Do a search of past topics. Sounds like you're well on your way.
