Default Protein shake during week off?

I just finished my last Break In workout yesterday and am currently enjoying my week off. Should I keep having my morning (whey/post workout) shake during this break? Or do I just take it after workouts?

I normally have a casein/whey blend shake each night.

No, protein is a dietary suppliment, not a training suppliment. Go ahead and have it on your off week.

How often should you drink protein shakes?

I have one daily. I have lots of whey, so it's no problem for me.

Whey tends to be a more econimocal protein source, so one a day shouldn't break your wallet.

You don't need to drink protein shakes, they are however absorbed into the muscles quickly so are perfect for after a workout......and they are very convenient. If you can get you protein requirements from whole foods then great. Just make sure you consume roughly 1g of protein to 1 pound of body weight.

Let's get the spelling correct: economical.

And JTM, correct, it's never necessary to use whey. It's just a matter of convenience and economics. A steak costs alot more then a protein drink and takes longer to make up (unless you're having left overs).
