Default H2-Cable Row

Hey guys,

I have just started H2 and was wondering if I could substitute the wide grip cable row for a wide grip bent over row? I did this in H1 but am more concerned this time around as the same workout also contains reverse grip bent over row. Unfortunately the gym I frequent does not have enough weight on the cable machine for this exercise, especially in the lower rep ranges.

Would I lose anything with this substitution?

Cheers!

Yes, you can. I workout at home and do not have a cable station, so I use a similar bent over barbell row grip for cable rows.

Would the seated cable row have a sufficient load for the 2x25 and the 3x12 days? If so, you could use it on those days just to get a little bit of it into your program. For the low rep days, use the overhand wide-grip barbell row.

There's not any other row machine at your gym with enough weight to use as a sub for the cable row? Some gyms have a unilateral machine row or plate-loaded machine row. But if you have no other options, then it's just going to be a whole lotta barbell rowing!

Thanks guys.

Yeah, unfortunately Lisa this is the only cable machine I can use. The gym I go to is only a small gym that mainly focuses on kickboxing and martial arts so they don't have a huge range of stuff. There is definitely enough for the 2x25 but i may have to stick with the bar again on the 3x12.

Thanks again!

What about some reverse pushups? That's what I call them anyway, lay on your back under the rack and do a row/pullup. If the 2 hand version is too easy, do them 1 handed.

One-handed inverted rows (another name for the same exercise) might make a great 12 rep option. I like the idea of using a variety of exercises instead of relying only on barbell rows, especially having to use two barbell rows in the same day. I realize it doesn't match the wide-grip concept, but it does offer some variety. So it's something to consider.

Two-handed inverted rows will most likely be too easy, unless you used them on the 25 rep days, but the cable row already works for that day.
