Default Dynamic Lunge - Change legs per rep or set?

So in the description of the dynamic lunge it says to switch legs every rep. But if each movement down on a leg counts as a rep then wouldn't the reps be split between the two legs? Or did the description mean switch legs every set. Like if something calls for 12 reps you do 12 reps on one leg and then 12 reps on the other leg (just like with the other lunges).

I hope I'm clear.

When I do my dynamic lunges I do every other leg. So, if it's a set of 12, I lunge out and back 24 times (12 per leg).

One rep of dynamic lunges would look like:

Left leg out, go down then up, then back
Right leg out, go down then up, then back

Do that 12 times and you've completed your set.

One set of Static lunges would be:
Left leg out and go down then up 12 times then back
Right leg out and go down then up 12 times then back

Irish - But some programs call for sets which contain 3 reps, which would mean that one leg would get one more than the other...

no, 1 rep of a dynamic lunge means that you do a right leg lunge, then a left leg lunge. That's one rep. Do that 3 times, and you did your set.

I could be doing it wrong, but I read it to mean that a set of 10 is actually 40 lunges. You go forward and back with the left leg, then forward and back with the right leg.

Set of 10 would be 20 lunges - 10 with each leg. Forward and back is one rep.

Irish has it right.
