Default Advice for Runner with this program!

I am going to start NROL today. I am very excited about it, Its the first program that really makes sense to me. My question is I am a runner wanting to add muscle but not loose any of my aerobic level. Should I do anything different in the plan to assure that. I am starting to train for a 1/2 marathon in a month or so. I understand that Lou is not for aerobic exercise, but for my training I have to to a lot. I do a lot of speed workouts, cruise intervals, temp runs and long runs. I average 25- 30 miles a week. I am 6'0 and right now am at 165. I have always battled my weight. Thats how I found running. I have lost over 70 pounds in the past 4 to 5 years and have kept it off for over a year now. I am now hooked on running and weight training. I normally lift for an hour (with no clue as to what I am doing, the book should help) and run for 45min to an hour 4 times a week. Any help would be great.

As you imagine, this question has come up a time or two before. This thread - Marathon Training and NROL - should help a little. Ask questions in the Running forum, you'll likely get some help there.

thanks for the response and the link delcyphr. My main question is related to this workout program not really running in general, although I did post on there also. I am just wondering if I need to add more reps or sets with these workouts while in training mode for 1/2 marathon.

I understand, tcoy - thanks for clarifying for me. I wish I had some insight here. But with luck, someone else can weigh in.

First let me say that I am not a runner, but my understanding is that you need just the opposite. You've got plenty of endurance work with your running. What's missing is strength work and full ROM work for your hips. Running moves your hips, knees, and ankles through a very small ROM over thousands of repeated reps. Your lower body workout should focus on full ROM for those joints. Many runners also need mobility work, especially for their hips. The NROL warm-up is good. Magnificent Mobility is even better.

There are several runners on this forum who have used NROL as their main lifting workout for some period of time. I know BamaDave did. Those guys should be able to give you some more specific information.

It's a DVD of mobility movements, mainly for the lower body, created and demonstrated by Eric Cressey and Mike Robertson. Here's the ad page: http://www.magnificentmobility.com/

These threads discussed the purchase of MM:
MM and IO
Inside Out/Magnificent Mobility ?

And this thread discussed how to implement the information into a program:

There are other sources for good mobility information. This is just one of my favorites.
