Default Do I realy need treadmill?

Hi,

I need a scientific answer for this.
If I do not want to loose fat, can I stop running on the treadmill or elliptical?
My friends tell me that you need to run because otherwise your arteries will not be clean and running helps remove stuff in the arteries.

I think this is BS and no science behind it. Am I right on this?

The NROL suggest that I can drop running completely, but I don't know if he considered health effect of this in addition to strength and muscle consideration.

Does running help with health?

Regards,

Maher

I think that while the emphasis on HIIT is often fatloss, it is also a great general conditioner. I don't know that any of the authors recommend not doing it.

The idea is that the body adapts to exhertion. Since steady state cardio is in general, non-variable, the body will adapt to the oxygen consumption and energy expenditure rather quickly.

HIIT combats this by making the cardio aspect an anaerobic exercise with intervals of low and high energy usage.

So, you don't have to give up running, but you need to change it up. As Lou is fond of saying (and I quote this as much as I can remember): you can't do the same thing and expect different results.

Not sure what scientific answer you were looking for but if you don't want the lose of fat and hate doing intervals then don't.

Your arteries are not going to clog up and become stone or whatever. Aerobic training is important as it makes your body more effient at dealing with waste products and other substrates, but again if you don't do any conditioning your not going to die immediatly.

Moral of the story....do something you enjoy.
