Default Energy flux question

I have a question about energy flux.

Do you need to take protein shake on non-workout days too? I remember Lou mentioning in the book that he takes protein shake with 40 gm of protein on workout days. Does it mean, 40 gm in addition to 3/4 gm per pound ones bodyweight? Would it not overburden our kidneys?

Hopefully Lost Dog will weigh in on this, but don't worry about your kidneys. If you take in 1 - 1.5 g of protein/lb daily (in any form), your body can handle it. Protein shakes are recommended after a workout because it is easily absorbed and quickly used during recovery, and on off days it is just a convenient way to get more protein.

As long as you have no pre-existing kidney problems, a high protein diet will not hurt your kidneys.

high protein diets do not cause kidney problems. They might make PRE-EXISTING kidney problems worse.

The protein shake the lou was refering to on workout days are whey protein powder mixed with simple sugars. On non-workout days, you can use protein powders to make up part of your meal.

Hope this clarifies things a bit more
