Default Hypertrophy AND Metabolic Overdrive?

I'm currently working on the Hypertrophy programs for, well, hypertrophy. I've already gone through 1-3 and am back on 1 again. I drink about 1300 calories of weight-gain shakes a day. While I've put on some good muscle, I've also put on some fat (expected, but I'd still like to get rid of it).

So I thought about putting Alwyn's Metabolic Overdrive plan into action (p. 86 in NROL, I think). After going through the chapter, I figure I would do the program right after lifting weights.

Now, maybe I'm reading into this too much, but if I follow this program, I should both add muscle and burn fat at the same time? Kinda sounds too goo to be true, but that's how I read the info.

Thoughts?

It is too good to be true.

The lifting workout doesn't make muscle when you're lifting and the MO doesn't really burn fat when you do it, either. Both are preparing the body for what's coming later. Eating, resting, etc.

Hypertrophy and burning fat require opposite states (caloric surplus vs deficit). Is doing both possible? Yes. Probably? No.

You're best shot is to minimize the fat loss by eating as close to that target level of calories as possible. Then, at some point it will be time for true fat loss again.

What about strength training? Is it possible to gain strength while eating at maintenance levels, or do you need to be in surplus?

It helps to eat more, from an energy perspective, but a significant amount of strength gains are neural in nature. You're teaching your body to lift heavy.

I think that a lot of people who don't get stronger during a fat loss phase are eating way too little and simply have a lack of energy.

Unless you're already super strong and highly experienced, of course.

While its possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, it is extremely difficult, since you need a surplus to gain weight and a defecit to gain muscle, to repeat evrything LD has just said . I would eat to maintain muscle mass, and see if your lifts keep going up or not, or wheather you make signifcant body comp changes...if either is not to your satisfaction...reevaluate and try it again...i found the best way i got results was to experiment and find what works for my body the best, after all not everyone will respond the same to the same stimulus
