So I started the NROL and am so excited...
I completed Routine ‘A’ of the Break-in routine Monday and I got my butt kicked. I was really running out of steam near the end. I haven’t lifted for a while, so that may have been part of it, but I think the relatively short rest periods (60 seconds) were taking their toll as well. I’m doing Routine ‘B’ tonight, so we’ll see if I can walk tomorrow, lol. I’m very excited about planning out my lifting schedule according to the routines in NROL. At 39 years old, I think I’m way better off training my whole body for ‘function’ as opposed to ‘form’ since I not only want to ‘look’ like I workout but I want to ‘feel’ like I workout.
I think Alwyn put it best when he said it’s best to train your body as a unit instead of a bunch of separate parts. I can’t help but think that is a person is training with weights that are ~ 1.0x, 1.5x and 2.0x their bodyweight in the bench press, squat and deadlift, respectively, they are going to be in pretty damn good shape (as long as their diet and cardio is being attended to).
I guess I got too caught up in the whole idea of ‘bodybuilding training’ when I should have been looking at ‘body training’ instead. Too bad I ‘wasted’ all those years by trying split routine after split routine, always looking for the best way to get the most out of my workouts.
I’m fully committed to following the NROL for the next 6 months (at least). That should be right about the time we head to Disneyworld. I don’t want to be embarrassed to wear a pair of swim trunks (without a shirt) at the water park. This Dad is going to make his son and wife proud of the shape he’s gotten in!
I want to get the most return out of the time I invest. I understand that I need to invest 100% effort to get the best results, and I have no problem doing that. I’m focused like a laser beam on transforming myself. I’m even skipping riding my motorcycle when I have free time if I haven’t gotten my workouts in! (If you know me, that is a HUGE deal, since I love to ride!)
Thanks in advance for any and all help you can provide.
