Default Rotational Lunge Form

In my general warm-up, I do a rotational lunge without weight, but in preparation for FL 1, I see these and wonder how you can rotate your torso while holding dumbbells in your hands down to your side. Visualizing it, I see the weight having to be picked up over the extended leg. Is this the way you do it?

I've held them to my shoulders and with my arms bent at a 90 degree angle and also with the arms hanging down when my arms finally get tired.

You may bang your leg a little.

There's no need to pick the db up over your extended leg if you are only rotating 90 degrees. (Remember you are rotating toward the extended leg side.) I felt I got better twisting action when I rotated that arm so that my palm was facing "backwards." This way, the back of your arm comes up against the extended leg, and the db is parallel to the leg.

Nice idea with the palms facing backwards, JackT. That should work perfectly.

Per Lou Shuler, hold a single dumbbell to your chest. Works great.

I've done this, when I needed to progress at a slower pace and only used a plate or DB.
