Default Sub for High Pull

You know how Lou gives a warning in the book about making sure you don't hit yourself in the chin with this move? Well I can't even get up that high since my C-cups are in the way. I keep knockin' the twins around instead - (how embarrassing!)

Anyone got a comparable substitute exercise?

uhh........................... .............................. ......................oops, sorry, got lost on the visual of that one . Ahem...perhaps you could try dumbbells instead. I know that's an obvious answer and maybe you were hoping for something a little better, but that's what I use anyway.

You know, maybe I'm just doing this wrong. I can't tell from the pic in the book and I can't tell from the descriptions on line. I think I'll just need to watch someone else do them or get a trainer.

I know a high pull is a step leading up to a clean. Which made me check..

Try to make sure your shoulders are over the bar, as opposed to being back too far. Remember to bring the bar up in a vertical line, exploding from your legs. Obviously you're not cleaning, so your hands just follow the momentum.

That's a great article Timmy. I'm glad you posted that. And skim, if you can't master the high pull, then start with just doing the jump shrug as outlined in that article.

There's an excellent video here. Click on "clean pull" to see the video.

Wow, I was totally doing the high pull wrong. I checked out the videos and did the high pulls with correct form today. What a difference! My chest thanks you.
