Default negatives

No, it isn't a post to knock the jock

It mentions negatives briefly in the book and that they aren't used because they are advanced.
Sooo, given that I am experienced and so is my training partner, where might one put a few negatives?

Thx

John

I have done heavy negatives in the past to get a 'feel' for the weight, and remove the shock of a weight that's new. I'm sure they are useful for other things as well, but I pretty much do partial movements now instead of negatives. Things like quarter squats, rack DLs, and rack bench let me do more weight than normal, but also let me get the feel for pushing it back up (even if it's under a limited range of motion).

As far as I can tell they are a fine way to gain strength.

I was trying to learn handstand pushups but couldn't even do one. I did a few sets of 3 or 4 negatives every few days. Within 2 weeks I could knock out 3 full pushups. I went from not being able to even start the movement to being able to do several full movements.

Aye, but I was wondering how to work them into the hypertrophy routines. ie What to drop what to add in, that sort of thing.

Don't drop them into Alwyn's workouts. If you're going to use negatives, you have to design the workout around them. Negatives are extremely tough on your muscles, creating (by design) far more muscular trauma than conventional lifts. That requires additional recovery, and you have to be prepared for the extra stress that comes along with that kind of muscle damage.

I just inferred from the book that the reason negatives weren't in the wo's was down to the inexperienced readership and that the wo's would have them in otherwise. So what I was after was the wo that would be in the book if everyone was experienced. Or something
