Default What to do about Travel

I have to fly out for a week of training and it falls right in the middle of my program. What to do...?

If there is a fitness room at the hotel, can I just approximate as closely as possible my workouts for that week?

If there is no fitness room, can I get away with just doing some squats, pushups and crunches until I return? If so, should that count as one week or should I pick the program up where I left off? Also, would it mess things up too much if I just took the week off and picked up where I left off when I return?

Just looking for the best way to deal with this unscheduled circumstance.

If you have a fitness room where you can do the workout properly then go for it. If not you have 2 options:

1) Just take the week off. Taking a week off isn't going to kill you. Travelling and things like that can put a lot of stresses on the body and just relaxing can be a good thing. The gym will be waiting for you when you get back and you'll probably have a new found motivation.

2) Do what you suggested and maybe just try to get in a couple full body workouts while you're of town. This way you won't be held to a tight schedule (since you'll probably doing lots of other unplanned stuff) but you also won't feel guilty about not working out for the entire week. Doing this option also shouldn't mess anything up in your main program.

That you for your suggetsions. I will keep both options open and see what kind of time/energy I have when I get there. Day 1 is already shaping up to be a 15 hour day; including travel. But, I appreciate your input and will keep it in mind. Thanks.

Damn! You guys don't even need me anymore!

Eastcoastsurfer said exactly what I would've said -- either take the week off and avoid the stress monster, or squeeze in a couple of "off the grid" workouts if you feel like it.

Personally, I never try to do my programmed workouts on the road. I'll always try to work in a session or two, but I consider those my "cheat workouts" -- I do whatever I feel like doing when I walk in the door.

If I feel like doing something that looks more like Muscle & Fitness than New Rules of Lifting, I do it. Curls? The more the merrier. Pumping up for the sake of pumping up? Sure! Why let the bodybuilders have all the fun?

My only rule is that I won't do anything that might get me hurt. Travel is stressful enough without limping through airports with my laptop over my shoulder.

I have a similar situation. My second week of Strength III will fall during the week of July 4th when I will be on vacation. I plan to do the first week, prior, then take the vacation week and finish when I come back. Believe me, your body will not forget Alwyn's workouts and will thank you for the break. LOL

Whenever I travel I look for local gyms close to the hotel. Usually if you call them ahead of time and explain the situation they will give you a good daily or weekly rate.
