Default Need some adaptation recommendations...

Doing this in my basement, I have to work with what I have got. I notice that I have 2 major problems.

1. I don't have many dumbbells. Ok, actually I have 2. I am planning on slowly getting more, but for now I need to spend my cash elsewhere. For the break-in, it calls for two point dumbell row with elbow out. I can manage the same motion with a barbell, should I do that? Or should I just switch to a normal barbell bent over row?

2. I don't have a step. Again, its on my list to build or buy, but not yet. My bench is too high. It is over knee high for me, and much higher for my wife. What can I use in place of these for now?

For the step, I just used the stairs. The second step of the stairs should be good enough. You may just have to lunge a bit more than a workout step.

1. You can do a one-arm row w. elbow out w. a barbell? Damn! If you can do that, great. If not, a barbell BO row is okay.

2. You can't find anything up to step onto? No plastic milk crate or wooden box? How about a pile of lumber? I do fairly low step-ups because of my knees, and never feel like I'm missing any stimulus. The lower the step, the heavier the weight you can use.

Thanks!

The stairs would work if I had dumbbells, not with the barbell though. I do have a metal milk crate, thats not a bad idea, maybe I could make that work.

And no, I did them 2 handed! However I was able to keep the elbows out and the proper back angle I think.

I wondered about the milk crate, too. I use a sturdy chair that's about knee height for me. It works OK for me.
