I know this isn't the best subject for the "multi sport" area - but I don't post on those other subjects - just wondering what the regulars here think....
I am thinking one of my new years resolutions may be to actually bite the bullet and try to get rid of my "insulation" - my "spare fuel supply" - my gut. I know - I am not fat - but I do have a belly - it stays around because I only eat junk food. I think if I commit to maybe 6-8 weeks of healthier eating - I could lose it and race lighter. Surely it would help me. I think I am just sick of it being there. I could have abs of steel and nobody would know it because I hide it behind my abs of flab.
maybe.... haven't really decided yet. I really love bacon cheeseburgers - and I don't know if it's really worth giving them up. I mean, I exercise because it's fun - and so I can eat bacon cheeseburgers. If I give up the food - this exercise better be a heck of a lot of fun...
maybe - I still have 2 weeks to decide.
What say you???

I personally say this.
If you're going to give up junk food for eight weeks and then switch back to eating the way you are now, ie go back to the junk, then I wouldn't bother cutting it out at all. You really aren't going to change anything apart from losing weight for about 8 weeks before you gain it all back.
Personally I would say learn to eat better, make it part of your lifestyle. You do not have to give up bacon double cheeseburgers, you just have to have them in extreme moderation, or with leaner bacon, wholewheat buns and chicken or buffalo burgers.

Glide - like OG said, it's kind of a lifestyle choice. I still enjoy the foods I loved, but probably much less often. I make amazing burgers with extra lean ground beef, wholewheat buns, and veggies. Not usually bacon though, but you could throw some turkey bacon on there, and there you have it.
With that though, I agree that you have to enjoy life a little bit. I was very very strict with my diet for a long time, and acheived my goal of losing the weight. I am still pretty strict, but I'll allow myself a cheat meal every week or so, and not indulge too much, but enough to enjoy it. Think of how great a Monday becomes when you know you can go out for a big burger and beers after work.
So like OG said, it's a lifestyle choice. I think you can find a happy medium and lose the weight, but enjoy your life. Good luck!!!

As you get older, changing the eating habits will be harder. I wish that I had better eating habits but the flesh is weak and I love a good bacon cheeseburger too. The only thing I can tell you is "all in moderation."

ODB.. harder to change eating habits as we get older.. I don't know.. it was just a few years ago that I decided that what I eat.. (taste wise) is just not important, and that that is not what I'm going to base my happiness on. I decided that I'll get my pleasures from things other than food or drinks. That changes my habits ALOT! Now I can eat things that are just plain Good for me..
And when I do decide to eat something that tastes delicious.. I just enjoy it more than I ever did.
