Anybody ever used a tow system? We are doing a race in NW Ark. next weekend - lots of hills - so we are wanting to hook up a tow system. Bungy or surgical tubing? PVC? What works - what doesn't?

For bike or running?

I had one on my bike for the Sylamore Hardcore but never used it. Sarah and I trained with it a little but I think I would make it different next time. I'm concidering putting a lightweight Topek rack on the back of my bike. Use a car antenna inside surgical tubing and screw clamp it to the rack. put a little loop in the tubbing a the end so the towee can grab it. Practice with it first.

For running: a 3-4 foot lenght of bungee with a small caribiner on each end. Can be attached to the back of the leaders pack and to the waist or sternum strap of the towee.

PM me if you need details.

Joe

Bike - I read something about ian adamsom using a car antenna (he called it an aerial). I need to get one of those topeak racks. I bet those would come in handy. But I still don't understand how to attach the antenna to the rack? We ended up rigging up a standard - PVC/flexible tubing holding surgical tubing. It worked pretty good.

My old one was PVC. It was fine but a bit cumbersome. This is how I understand Ian's to work.

</font>
  • Put antenna inside surgical tubing.</font>
  • Use screw on pipe clamps to secure the antenna to the rack.</font>
  • Leave enough surgical tubing hanging off the back that the towee can reach it but it won't swing into your tire.</font>
  • Also have enough to put a loop in t so it is easily grabbed and held.</font>
I may be building one for myself soon. Also let me know if you are still interested in North Georgia Adventure Race. It can be done as a three man team or if we can find a woman crazy enough to do it with us we can race for awards.
