Allright, I have my first triathlon in a year this Sunday. It's just a sprint tri but I have not really been training for it other than trying to stay fit with some mountain biking and a couple of hilly three mile runs a week. I went swimming for the first time in several months a couple of weeks ago. I'll do this race and push myself hard but I'm not sure how I'll do. This should be a good wake up call for next months adventure races.

Good luck Joe! One thing I was shocked about was just how much the adreneline from being at the race pushed me. My swim and bike were probably the best I've ever had. You're in phenominal shape, you'll be fine!!
Race your race, and have some fun with it. If you feel like slowing down, slow down and cheer some other folks on. Good luck, have a blast!!

"Phenominal shape" is not a phrase I would throw around on this board. Particularly when talking about me. I'm just dumb enough to go out and do this stuff anyway.

Joe - if when I turn 45, I'm still doing half of the races you are at this point, I'll consider myself to be in phenominal shape.
Now go eat some cake

After completing the sprint triathlon this morning, I made ODB ride with me on a short road bike trip down the river. Poor boy is sleeping it off. Except for a calf cramp that slowed down his run some, he really did well. A super swim! The finish was somewhere right around 1hr27min. GREAT JOB JOE!

Man, she just let me sleep so she could go shoppin' . The race went better than expected. My swim was pretty stong. Lisa thought that I cam out of the water in about 10th in my wave. I held my ownon the bike passing and getting passed. I wish I was a stronger runner. It will be a few days before I have splits.
I think the time was my best for this race (I've done it three times). That's pretty good considering they added about 2 miles of hills to the bike course. I wish I had photos but when we got up a 5 this morning not all brain cells were firing in order. Lucky I remembered my bike.
So we went out riding after the race and Lisa was pulling me at about 21 mph. Damn she's gettin' strong. I was pretty much toast after that, took a shower and crashed for about 3 or 4 hours. Then we went out for pizza and beer. Life is good!!!
Next week the Joe Weber Arky 100 century ride!

Good job Joe!! Sounds like Lisa's ready for a full century next weekend. There should be enough to share the pulls.

Well here are the results. I'm happy to have improved my time finishing in 1:27:29 The race was a 500yd swim, 14.6 mile bike and 3 mile run. I did pretty much what I thought I would do. I came in 3rd in my age group (45-49) in the swim, middle of the pack on the bike and second to last on the run. So I finished 11th out of 14 in the age group. I really need to work on the run. GOOD NEWS! I did beat the fastest woman in the age group! (but it was close). The extra bit of biking was tough and having both my calves lock up on me at the beginning of the run didn't help. The sub 29 3 miler is actually not bad for me considering what I had already done. Next year I think I'll try to train for this one and break the 1:20 time wall.
Thanks everyone for your support! Joe

Good Job Joe.
I did that race a couple of years ago and just remembered digging all of the mud out of my ears after - that Beaverfork.
Your swim time is smoking! I hate the mass swim starts - probably why I don't do more triathlons - I am not a good swimmer and it just makes me nervous - getting kicked in the gut - goggles kicked off, etc. Plus I can't seem to swim straight without a black line below me. I zig zag all over the place. The swim is just "survival" for me. I bet I have breast stroked at least 50% of every tri swim I have done. I don't know how to get over the anxiety.
And now you are riding a century this weekend? And doing Chaffee? And Raid the Rock? Big few weeks for you - enjoy.

Century this weekend, one weekend off to train, chaffee, RTR, then the next weekend I'm going to make him ride his bike with me from our house to downtown (hopefully picking up silly and bmph8tr on the way)and wait for me while I run the race for the cure. Then...we rest Oh and maybe take a few days off for a backpacking trip. Mama said "go play outside!"
