For anyone who has done a tri (Fish, ODB, NinjA!), did you guys all use wetsuits? Did you buy them or rent them?

I can rent one for about $45 for the weekend, or buy one for like $150. I don't know that I want to pay 1/3 of the price of buying one to rent it for a weekend. I'm torn!

Any advice? Where I can find a used one, clearance, etc?

I bought a half wetsuit for $50 on sale. What's the H2O temp--do you really need one?

Yeah, I guess the water can be pretty cold up in 'rado. I haven't needed one for a tri yet but I do have one. It's a shorty that I bought for about $75. It's great for long canoe legs in the winter particularly in moving water where the chance of getting wet are higher.

They're saying the water temp is going to be mid to low 60's. I think my nipples would freeze off without one.

I've been looking everywhere for a used or clearance one, but I'm not having much luck.

Ugh.

Have you tried Sports Authority or Academy Sports? They carry Body Glove and Sterns I think. They are not the greatest but would be a lot better than spending big bucks and not using again. You could try them on and check out your movement in them. Put some vaseline or body glide on any areas that might rub.

I used Pam spray on the arms and legs--easy on and off.

I picked up some Bodyglide over the weekend. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll probably do the rental and see if I really need to buy the wetsuit.

For water temps in the 60's you'll probably want a 2mm wetty. Seeing as you'll be putting in alot of effort swimming you should be able to get away with a shorty (springsuit as we say in surfing).

One thing about buying used is you really gotta check the seams carefully. Those things don't last too long and a year old suit needs to be looked at carefully.

Enjoy!
