At the risk of pissing off JP for posting too much stuff from the CrossFit website, I'm posting this over here instead of the general fitness one. Here's a new work out for you more extreme fitness folks:
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-video/Josh_Greg-Fran.wmv
By the way, that's Josh and Greg doing the "Fran" workout. They give women's names to the workouts sometimes.
I can't get enough of this stuff so that's why I'm posting stuff all the time over here like the one-armed rope climb! Wheeeeweee! Blows my minds and motivates me to no end!

Looks pretty cool. Those push-presses look brutal! NOt to be a snob, but I'd be even more imperssed if they had done one single pullup with good form. What's with the leg-kicking, head snapping, partial-range thing?
Oh well, still a gruelling workout!

There is a lot of discussion on kipping pull-ups. I think it is easiest to explain by suggesting that a kipping pull-up is to a regular pull-up what a push press is to a military press. Same basic lift, different demands, and focus. The kip turns the pull-up into a full body exercise that has a lot more carry over into olympic lifting and general activity. It uses a powerful hip snap and requires upper and lower body coordination. It also alows greater speed to increase the metabolic demands of the workout. I am guessing that you didn't jump up on a bar and try 21 "bad form" pull-ups before saying that you would be more impressed if they did "good form" pull-ups. The kip is something that requires technique and pratice to master correctly. Kipping doesn't make doing 21 pull-ups easy. I do agree that their range of motion was VERY border line on a lot of reps though. Both of those guys are capable of doing that workout with regular pull-ups, and the close guy(Josh) without breaking any sets; just would have gotten slightly longer times, and not necessarily any better of a workout. I generally do about half and half kippers and regulars when doing a workout with a lot of pull-ups.

I think it's FRAN-TASTIC!!! I've been practicing the thrusters and pull-ups combo, supersetted.
I've only kipped a few times but I read all the arguements for kipping so I now know better than to argue that point. I think Buk covered it pretty well!
