Yesterday was my first brick. I didn't think it was going to be as tough as it was, but wow! I'm really feeling it this morning!!

I rode for about 20 miles (45 minutes or so), so I was riding at a pretty good pace for me. Jumped off, changed, took a squirt of Accelerade and Whey, and was off on the run. I took about 20 steps and though, "No way am I going to make it". About a mile in (9 minutes or so), I finally felt like my gelatinous legs were under me, and I got another good mile or so in before I had to call it a day.

Wasn't much, only about an hour total of working, but it was great. I have about 8 weeks until my first tri, and can say that I will definately be ready. Next week, I'll try to go a little longer, and we'll see how it goes.

Anyone else (Fish?) brick train? Any advice?

Bricks rule Sounds like you are on track. I wish I could run, I'd still like to get in one tri this year. I'm hoping the ankle will be healed enough early next month to start running again so I may still do the CATS in September. Will live vicariously thru you guys till then.

emartin - I'm also training for my first Tri. I'm not sure I'm training hard enough though. I also took a crack at a small brick the other day. I rode about 4 miles to the local University and then hoped off the bike and tried running around the track. I got in "1" little lap and I was dying. Talk about a little wake up call.

Hopefully I'll be ready in September for this Tri.

Yeah, same feeling here. One bit of advice, keep pushing through that weak, shaky leg feeling. I think it's that you're not necessarily tired, but your legs just aren't used to running yet. It's strange, but I felt better during mile 2 than mile 1, so I think it's just a matter of getting used to that feeling and pushing through it. Good luck, lets keep each other up to date!

Yeah the first mile is always wierd coming off the bike. Now try mountain biking on singletrack for 10 miles and then trail running. It get really strange. Last year doing the Xterra I came out of the transition and they had a water table. I wound up just pouring the water over my head since I was still stumbling. It does get better the more bricks you do and you'll learn to expect it.

LOL, I could have used a water for my noodle, that would have helped.

I can't imagine the mountain biking to trail running transistion. I'd be face down in dirt...
