Here is a link to some pics from my first triathlon:
Tom Landry Triathlon
It was a Sprint Tri (400m swim, 30k bike, 5k run). I had a ton of fun and I can't wait to sign up for my next one!
Drew
ps - Yes, that is a mountain bike. And Yes, I was 1 of 2 people in the field of 600+ with a mountain bike.

Dude, Thursday night there was a nasty pack crash at the river. About 20 guys went down during a 30mph sprint. If they weren't wearing jerseys, the damage would have been much worse. As it is, 3 people went to the hospital.
Another guy came in with a torn jersey and shredded gloves after crashing on a descent. Again, if he wasn't protected by the jersey...
I know I'm in lecture mode, but a jersey is our only layer of protection between our skin and the pavement.
Good job on the tri.

Drew, big congrats on the tri! Good luck on #2.
Good call silly. I was about to say the same thing. You really need a jersey on the bike if something unfortunate should happen. It'll save you a lot of nasty road rash.

I think it would help keep you cooler too. The sweat will be pulled from your skin and will have more surface from which to evaporate. You did the bike leg of a tri on a mountain bike with knobbies? You da man!

Thanks everybody for the replies and kind words.
Admittedly, as far as equipment is concerned, I was underprepared for this race. However, my conditioning was actually better than I expected.
ODB - I have not even thought about an off-road tri, but it sounds fun as hell...thanks for the tip.
Silly, Kaiser, and bmph8ter - Good call on the jersey...and I need to get a road bike!! Riding a mountain bike on a road course absolutely killed my time. I think I lost at least 20 minutes, maybe even 25 due to my bike.
TrainingGirl and Chera - Thanks ladies! I would like to get a poster made, but have you seen the prices of those pictures from brightroom.com?? They are ridiculous. I bought a 5x7 for $20!!

We are actually in the same situation. We want to attempt a tri, but only have our MTB's. We are a little intimidated by the swim, but we have been working on that.
How bad would we get crushed if we put some road tires on the MTB's?
The offroad ones sound neat too though. I'll have to see if there are some of them around here.

Chris - try some semi-slick tires. I've used them in mtb races that involved a lot of hard pack and some road riding. Let me see if I can find you some off-road races.

Agree with ODB--semi slicks will get you where you want to go. In my tri, there were a bunch of guys riding on them.
Or, you could get a road bike
