My adventure racing team ( Kamikaze Dust Bunnies) is looking for another member. The team is currently made up of Lisa (my wife), Sarah (yeah, you remember Sarah), and me (The old guy). We are strong on bikes and I'm a pretty good navigator. We are currently putting together our 2005 race schedule. The first race will be the Ozark Challenge near the Mulberry River in April. There will also be other races that will need four teammates. It would also be nice to have more than four on the team so we can have alternates when some members can't make a particular race.

We don't have a sponser yet but we are working on it (no promises). We already have the coed part taken care of so we are not worried about needing to be a particular sex.

We would like to have someone who has the following attitude toward racing:

1. Wants to have a good time and is a supportive, team player.

2. Wants to be competitive and will train hard.

3. Oh, and did I say you have to have a good time?

You will need to already be proficient on a mountain bike and you may need some equipment (but we do share well). I have two canoes for training. We are also not what you would call a running team but we are working on it. It would be best if you lived in Central Arkansas so we can train together on a regular basis.

I've seen a lot of pictures on this site of buff people, who's ready to take it to the next level?

Joe (ODB)

Good luck - I'm sure you'll find someone.

ODB...what do you think of a practice teammate? I have no idea if I would really like to do this, but I won't know until I try. However, I have zero mtb experience. I'd say keep looking for an official teammate, but I'd be interested in practicing with you guys. How non-commital is that as a response ?

That is so incredibly non-committal, it sounds like my answer to "what do you want for dinner?" and "what movie do you want to watch?"

From what I've read, you're a runner. We need help in that area. Maybe you could help us with our running and we could get you on a bike more and we could just call it having a good time playing outside instead of worrying about whether or not you really want to try adventure racing. Now...how non-committal is THAT? Hell, I'm not sure how much I really like it. I do it to spend more time with people I like!

Okay Cap, what kind of bike do you have. (God I love gear talk!) We'll probably be doing a good bit of riding for a while until Lisa's ankle is 100%. We may do some paddling too. I know Sarah is ready to do some riding. She wants to focus on xc racing some this year and I know she has plans for a few centuries.

I have a Diamondback (I think) it's a mountain bike, but currently I have skinny tires and need to get a set of the fat ones for trails.

Do you ride and paddle in this weather?

When do you ride? It seems like the only time I have much time for long workouts would be on the weekends.

Again I'm highly non-commital, but interested
I might quickly find out that you guys/gals are too hard core for me?

Obviously, we don't have much chance to workout in this kind of weather but.... As I was sitting in the traffic for 5 hours today I was day dreaming of getting out and running and canoeing in this. It's actually not any colder than it was for our last race just add snow.

We usually ride on weekends. I let you know when we ride next. I wanted to on Christmas morning but I don't know what the weather will be like.

5 hours! Wow! I left early and got home in about an hour, after leaving my car on Lee st. The whole way home I kept thinking I should just pull into a parking lot and hike home. I get to hike today back downtown, though. Should be fun.

Keep me posted on your rides.

Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Hey Cap, Keep checking my site to see if we are going out for a training run. I think Lisa will be on her new road bike on Friday. I will join her if I can.

Wish I was in Little Rock or you guys were in Eastern Iowa. I would join your team in a heart beat. Would give me something to train for. I've done a couple of 'adventure races' here in Iowa, but they aren't real races. Canoe for 8 miles, Road Bike Ride 15 miles, 5K run.

There's a race up here late in the fall if you guys are looking for a race to add to your schedule. Would be a long trip however.

I wish you were here too. Building a team is the hardest part of adventure racing I think. Getting the right group of people who can all get along durin adverse conditions is tough enough but on top of that they have to have similar goals and of course everyone including myself have their own special needs.

We are still looking for that fourth.

What races have you done? Their were teams from Iowa at the Table Rock Challenge. They did pretty well I think. (we still don't have results).

The team at TRC was S.O.A.R they are organizing a race by the same name, is that the race you're referring to? There was a lot of talk around the fire trying to get people up there to do it.

I haven't done any actual adventure races. The one I mention above about canoeing, cycling and running is the only one that I've done (actually done as a 4 person team; 2 canoe, 1 ride (that's me!), 1 run). That's it. I've watched many of the 'major' adventure races and have always been interested in doing one of them (might have to break one of those tapes out again!).

The adventure race I'm talking about is put on by Team High Profile - http://www.teamhighprofile.com/Event...nderRolls.html

I think this year's race was run in pretty nasty weather...lots of rain and cold!

I've always wanted to visit the area that race is in. My grandparents are buried in Muscatine, IA. They grew up in that area.

I think Thunder Rolls is an adventure race. They come in all sizes. Which team were you on?
