The following is a list of USARA sanctioned races for the next three months. As you can see, there are a lot. Each month I will add a month and remove a month to keep people updated but if you would like to see the calendar farther out or want to know more about the USARA go to the following link:

May 1, 2004 Tehama Extreme and Tehama "Not so" Extreme
2004 USARA National Championship Qualifier Red Bluff, CA
Sponsored by Sunsweet Growers, Inc. The Tehama Extreme will be an 8 – 12 hour race featuring navigation through the volcanic mudflow of the 15 million year old Mt. Tehama, and a paddling leg on the mighty Sacramento River. Events will include mountain biking, running/hiking, and paddling. Teams of 2 to 4 people, and solos, are welcome. There will be no crews needed, but bring them along to try the Tehama “Not-So” Extreme, a 2 – 4 hour race run concurrently. This will be a great race to practice your navigation skills because you’ll be in an area you’ve NEVER raced in before. No support crew required for either race. May 1, 2004 SEAL Adventure Challenge Virginia Beach, VA
The Seal Adventure Challenge provides an opportunity for motivated participants to take part in a 24-hour civilian version of Navy SEAL “Hell-Week” training, known as the toughest and most grueling in the military. Competitors participate in pool drills, soft-sand runs, log PTs, Physical Readiness Tests (PRT), boat exercises and other elements of SEAL training. The overnight mission includes training in strategy, stealth and field communications. The events are led by of a group of highly-trained Navy SEAL instructors and other Special Forces personnel. 2004 USARA National Championship Qualifier Baker Creek State Park (McCormick, SC)
3 Person Teams (co-ed or single sex) can compete in the sport or advanced division. Advanced Division - This is a wicked event that includes water crossings, paddling (canoe), navigation / orienteering (water and land), mystery events, and anything else we dream up before the race (estimated 13-16 hour finish time). The navigation is challenging. This division is not geared for novice racers. Sport Division - This event is geared for novice, first time racers or those that just want a shorter race. The events are similar to the advanced division only less lengthy, but still challenging. Racers are not required to plot UTM map coordinates in this division. The race is designed to be completed in 3 to 6 hours. Entry fee - Advanced - $250, Sport - $180 (+$30 after). Final start times are yet to be determined, but the advanced race will begin Saturday night and run into Sunday afternoon. The sport division will begin Sunday morning and end Sunday afternoon. All proceeds from the race are used for the humanitarian efforts of Save the World (STW), Inc. The organization has no administrative fees and 100% of all donations and income to the organization are used for humanitarian assistance. A great way for racers to get the paddling and climbing certifications needed for Odyssey and other USARA events. Two intensive days of whitewater paddling and fixed ropes skills led by Travis Overstreet. Additional instruction on gear, strategy, and wilderness first aid will be presented. Participants will stay overnight at the Promise Land Camp, paddle in the James River and climb at selected Blue Ridge Mountain sites. The only event of it’s kind! In this 7-day course, participants will experience parachuting, scuba diving, map and compass, land navigation and SEAL “Hell Week” type physical training evolutions. Respected as a very unconventional and physically demanding triathlon, this race incorporates elements of adventure racing in the disciplines. The swim takes place in beautiful Sherando Lake, and is followed by a run/hike. Racers climb to the top of Torry Ridge Trail, proceed along the ridgeline then run back down the mountain. The PRO bike section is a double loop mainly on single track, while the Sport class is one loop. Competitors will race up the rocky mountain at the beginning of each loop - a Herculean effort that often makes or breaks competitors. If that’s not enough, we now offer the PRO EXTREME COURSE! This is a 12 hour race that will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. GOALS-ARA in cooperation with the Aquatic and Fitness Center is staging the first real adventure race in Philadelphia. Teams of 3 racers (co-ed, open, and masters) will swim, trek, bike, traverse, canoe, and complete team challenges while helping a worthy cause. 24 hours of adventure in the city where America began. It will be a balance of urban and wilderness challenges through the historic and scenic landscape in and around the City of Brotherly Love. The sleepless night that the racers will endure will be for the benefit of those waiting for the gift of life. Racers will face all that adventure racing has to offer during the most patriotic weekends in the most patriotic city in America. Many of the challenges will have spectator access.

4-Day Adventure Race/275 miles
A member of the Adventure Racing World Series and a USARA National Championship Qualifier. One of America’s original Adventure Races is back with an expedition-style competition for soloists, and teams of 2 and 4. Racers will pass through miles of scenic gorges and valleys containing a wide range of interesting geological and historic features, and some of the biggest arches in the east. Disciplines include trekking, mountain biking, orienteering, whitewater canoeing with Class III – IV rapids, and a dynamic ropes course. Each team or soloist must be assisted by a support crew. "Sprint Distance" 2-4 hour Adventure Races are the perfect distance for teams new to the sport, as well as experienced teams who prefer the shorter “Push it to the Max” course distance. Categories are 2-Person teams of, Male, Female, or Co-Ed. The actual course layout and distances are not revealed until the race start, but usually consist of: Trail Running (2-3 miles) Mountain Biking (7-10 miles) Kayaking (1-2 miles) and should take the average team about 2:30 to complete. We provide the boats, paddles, and you provide a trail capable bike, running shoes, and a willing team mate. Cost for early registration is still only $55/person.
